The family of Gus Verbeke age 93 years of Saskatoon announces his passing on 21st of November 2005 at Saskatoon City Hospital.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 conducted by Rev. Michael Stonhouse at St. James Anglican Church ( corner of 12th Street East and Dufferin Avenue)
Gus is survived by his loving wife Edith; his children: Judi (Ron) Bell; Daphne (Cliff) Moore, Christopher, David, Robert; Terry Verbeke, Scott, Alan, Susan; Bill Verbeke (Debbie), Jeffrey, Jennifer, Stephen; his brother Peter (Kay) Verbeke; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; siblings: Cyril (Betty), Mary, Afra (Bryce) McKay.
Gus was born in Ottawa and moved with his family to Saskatoon where he attended Caswell School and Bedford Road Collegiate. He operated the Saskatoon Wool Shop before serving with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. After the war Gus and his brothers owned and operated Verbeke's Ltd., also working along with Bulman and Byers-Bush companies. Gus's greatest business love was the building and operating the Parktown Hotel.
He was a quiet and solid supporter of his community and will be remembered as a loving, gentle family man who possessed a belief in and demonstrated a strong work ethic throughout his life.
