Obituary for John Guy
After years of illness, John Albert Guy said good-bye to his family and friends. He departed this life March 27, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital. John was proceeded in death by his parents, the late Allie Joe and Agnes Guy, his siblings, Josephine Norman and Bessie Guy, several brothers-in-law, and grandson Carlos Guy. Influenced by the early teachings of his parents, John attended Taylor Chapel CME Church during his childhood and teen years, and later confessed Christ. In the small town of Forest Hill, Tennessee where he grew up, he attended Forest Hill Elementary, Collierville Elementary and Mt. Pisgah High through the tenth grade. He later worked in Des Moines, Iowa and in Memphis as a construction engineer with Ironworkers Local 167. John was skillful in construction work and home repairs. A sibling quotes in a publication, “John was the oldest son. He loved following daddy around the house, preparing for picnics and other family events, and he loved the land and making it ready for growing cotton and vegetable gardens. After retirement, he continued to enjoy construction work and repair or improve homes in the community.” Survivors who mourn his passing and cherish his memories are his wife, Evelyn Guy; daughter, Melanie Guy; son, Alex Carr of Europe; two grandsons, Colbie Brown and Josiah Carr; one granddaughter, Grace Carr; two brothers, Allie Joe Guy, Jr., and David William Guy; five sisters: Yvonne Guy, Dorothy (Ray) Jackson, Dr. Hattie (Edward) Isen, and Ann (Cleo) Anderson of Memphis, Tennessee, and Virgie (John) Neville of Des Moines, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and relatives.
A public viewing is scheduled for Saturday April 3, 2021 from 11 am until service of celebration time 12 pm at R.S. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home 2944 Walnut Grove Rd. Burial will follow at Memphis Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Pkwy.
We will continue to follow CDC guidelines.
