On February 8, 2024, the world was profoundly affected by the passing of Liana Thomas. Born Liana Cook on January 22, 1952, in San Diego, California, she was the cherished daughter of Ulysses Cook Sr. and Irma Cook, who later became known as Walled and Hanifah Shakir.

Liana received her education in the greater Los Angeles area, beginning at Joni Fremont High School before transferring to Muhammad University of Islam, where she graduated as a member of the inaugural class. Shortly thereafter, she married and welcomed her first daughter, Shelice, followed by her other children, Denic, Charles, and Kamynah.

For many years, Liana embraced the role of a devoted housewife, nurturing her family until she decided to attend West LA College, where she earned her certification as a paralegal. She subsequently joined her older brother, Ulysses, in launching his law firm, and they collaborated closely for over four decades.

Liana found joy in the warmth of family, relishing moments filled with love, laughter, singing, and dancing. She cherished traveling and cooking for her loved ones, and she had a special passion for plants and flowers, dreaming of owning her own nursery.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, and husband. Liana leaves behind her four children, Shelice, Danique, Charles, and Kamynah, as well as her goddaughter and bonus child, Harmony, 12 grandchildren, and six siblings: Ulysses Jr., Brenda, Lola, Melva, Charles, and Malikah, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Liana's legacy is defined by her love, kindness, and wisdom, and her absence will be felt deeply by her family and friends. As we mourn her passing, let us celebrate the extraordinary life of Liana Thomas, a guiding light whose memory will continue to inspire us. May her soul rest in eternal peace, power, and paradise.
