The "mhshalftime75" audio recording above is of the halftime show at the Monterey/Wichita Falls Ryder football game in Fall 1974. After halftime ends, there are a few moments of MHS band director C. Doyle Gammill talking with his young son, Clayton, about the band.

The day I was called into Mr. Randles' office where 2 Lubbock police detectives were waiting to question me about the Lubbock water tower being painted. They said as the President of the Student Council, I had an obligation to tell them "who done it". I said I had an obligation to the students and my friends to not say anything. When they tried to arrest me, Mr. Randles abruptly threw them out of his office (you're welcome John). Good times!!

Winning the state championship our junior year was a highlight of being on the baseball team, but for me drinking beer with the cheerleaders, sitting around the motel pool across the street later that night...those were the real “glory days”.

The only project I ever completed at Monterey was our installation of the Sophomore Bench. It was about 15 degrees and we fought the frozen ground and the water kept freezing as we mixed the concrete. We ran out of rock for the concrete and used gravel we scraped off the roof. I still owe my dad a toilet. Good times!

The pep rally that ended abruptly in the auditorium when a smoke bomb went off but then continued circling the halls of Monterey. I got called to the office for not setting a better example as a leader. Oops!
