Carpet One, now known as Carpet One Floor & Home, was founded in 1985 by Howard Brodsky and Alan Greenberg, who also established the Carpet Co-op of America in 1984. The initial goal was to create a cooperative that would allow independent flooring retailers to compete effectively in a challenging market. Initially, 13 members joined, and the cooperative quickly grew, reaching 26 members by the end of its first year and posting $25 million in sales.
