Q: What are the origins of the Celebration Weekend Event?

A: The constraints of Covid in 2020 made it incredibly difficult to gather or make plans to travel, the leadership core for the 45th reunion took a bold, proactive step. In April 2022, using the established social media "PNG Class of 1975" group Facebook page, those leadership classmates promoted "Save the Date" for April 26, 2025 for the 50th class reunion. The leadership core utilized this new dimension for planning & involving others across the country through virtual meetups, unhindered by geography. For two years, the post has been viewed by almost two hundred people, commented on favorably, and has been Liked/Loved by at least seventeen people. For the past two years is has been publicly without opposition, dissent, or anyone offering alternatives.  The resolute selection of the date far in advance is particularly welcomed by those who in good faith are necessitated to plan far in advance, many who live abroad.

It is reasonable that, as in times before, without formal input or voting, our classmates now through their social media involvement, imply high trust and indirectly conferred approval to those ardent volunteers who proposed a 2025 reunion date.  Although not accepted by all, this channel of conferred approval is commonly recognized in our society where virtual associations are conventional.

You have every assurance, this event and date was proposed by impartial leadership without regard to any individual, but with the hope that as many as possible could be present. Heartfelt and grateful "Thank You" to all who exercised good faith, trust, and confidence in their fellow classmates to lay the foundation for the 1975 PNG Class Celebration Weekend.

Q: Why is this event not called a "reunion"?

A: Taking a cue from Shakespeare, "What's in a name? That which we would call a rose, by any other word would smell as sweet."   In May 2024, we purposefully chose to defer to others who might find contentment by using the term "reunion" exclusively. Our focus on headlining  "Celebrating" rather than "reunion", does not change a thing about what we will be offering. In the long run, the names of these events do not alter what they truly are. We have such awesome classmates and will be emphasizing celebrating where we came from to where we are now.
