Joanie Stearley
My first memories of Joanie are from Madison middle school where she impressed me with her intellect. She excelled in math and science and saw the world in a way that few did. She was beautiful, kind and generous in spirit. I liked her immediately. Our junior year at Sandia brought us even closer when she made the JV cheerleading squad. She excelled there also with amazing jumps and athletic talent, but more than that she radiated joy in both practice and performance. Joanie was always humble, she knew who she was and what she wanted and then made it happen. Her path led to Fort Collins, CO where she attended CSU. She was studying to become a veterinarian. Gentle, empathic nature lover...this made sense. She had become an avid runner and she was very happy with a boyfriend who loved her dearly. July 12, 1997 is when she passed. Her memorial was held in Albuquerque where Natalie Weatherby and I said our final goodbyes. Her final resting place is Sunset Memorial in Albuquerque. Her gravestone includes the following, Romans 8:37-39
