An obituary wasn't located but a friend of his, David Headley, said this about Mitch:
My ability to process this information creates an emotional and mental conflict that leaves me listless and lost. As many of you know, Mitch and I climbed the show business ladder together in the 1980"s...the "decade of decadence' when image ran neck-in-neck with talent. Mitch didn't gel with the image expectation and kept his heart and talent where it belonged...with the music. He was my roommate on the road when we travelled, and I spent precious time basking in his good humor, artistic know-how, and our mutual respect. This man had a selfless heart, and great heart will never be denied. Thank you bro.
