Dennis Ryan

I remember on that canoe trip Tim Cashman and I had a waterproof tent and Dennis and Jim Gallager were in an old canvas tent that leaked badly. We would let Jim and Dennis look in just so they could see how comfotable a dry tent could be. Miss you both

Denny had one of those infectious grins you had to like right off. . In grade school I'd go over to his house and have chicken noodle soup. Every time. We kids teased him about it. He was a first rate short stop, scoop it up throw 'em out in one motion. One game, St John's vs Lincoln, Bill Schmitt was striking out us St. John hitters one two three. Denny said, 'I'm not afraid of him.' And Bill's pitching was something to fear. Denny steps up, first pitch, bang he's on base. Two weeks after graduation, Denny, Howie, Brad Lorence and I went on a canoe trip off the Sawbill trail. The fish weren't biting all week. Ryan says, 'I'm not coming in until I catch one. He's out there and now it's raining and a thousand casts latter it's still raining and he still hasn't felt a tug. His determination was impressive enough. We told him to come in, we'd open a can of tuna fish. The last time I talked with Denny was at our 1995 Turning 40 Reunion. He was still my friend right off.
