John B. Franks was a musician, a composer and a lawyer. He attended the Ohio State University Law School as a scholarship student.
He had been a drummer with a number of bands, including Sandbridge, Paradise, Kick and Beau Coup. As a lawyer, he specialized in worker’s compensation with the Risiko/IAB firm.
Mr. Franks died of what is believed to have been a heart attack at his home in Mayfield Heights on Saturday. He was 42.
He was born in Cleveland and was a 1973 graduate of St. Joseph High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Cleveland State University with cum laude honors and was given the Auerbach Memorial Scholarship Award. He belonged to the Phi Theta Kappa, Golden Key National Scholastic and Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science organization.
Mr. Franks graduated from law school and was admitted to the bar in 1994. He was a member of the American Bar Association, The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the section of labor and employment law of the Ohio State Bar Association.
Mr. Franks is survived by his wife, the former Cathie Riccardi; parents, James and Marie of Willoughby Hills; grandmothers, Lena Trotta of Mayfield Heights and Olive Renner of Lynhurst; and two sisters.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Clare Catholic Church, 5659 Mayfield Rd., Lyndhurst.
Arrangement are by the Fioritto Funeral Home of Lyndhurst.
