REICHERT REV. ELDON G. REICHERT, S.M., age 87, of Dayton, OH, died March 20, 2010 at Mercy Siena Woods. Born August 27, 1922 in Dayton, OH, son of the late Joseph and Maude (Stull) Reichert. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Father Eldon entered the Society of Mary and professed first vows on October 19, 1941 at Beacon, NY, and perpetual vows on August 26, 1945 in Dayton, OH. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 20, 1952 in Fribourg, Switzerland. He graduated from the University of Dayton with a BA in 1944 and from New York University in 1947 with an MA. He taught at Holy Trinity High School in Brooklyn, NY, Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY and for over twenty years at St. Joseph High School in Cleveland, OH. From 1961 to 1973, he was a teacher, chaplain and administrator at several Marianist secondary schools in Africa. From 1983 to 1990 he was a chaplain at the Christian Life Center in Cleveland, OH. From 1990 to 2002 he was the Director of the St. Aloysius Hunger Center in Cleveland, OH, where he received the Edmond V. Worley Memorial award in 2001 as the person who best exemplified the work of Ed Worley, founding member and former executive director of the food bank. Illness brought him to Mercy-Siena in Dayton, OH in 2003. He donated his body to Wright State Medical School for medical research. A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Aloysius Church, 10932 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH at 7 PM, Wednesday, April 7, 2010 followed by a reception. A Memorial Mass will also take place at Queen of Apostles Chapel in Dayton, OH at 11 AM on Saturday, April 17, 2010 followed by a luncheon at Bergamo.
