SCIARROTTA REV. LEE SCIARROTTA, S.M., age 74, of Dayton, died Sept. 23, 2010 at Mercy Siena Gardens. Born Aug. 10, 1936 in Cleveland, son of the late Charles and Jennie (nee Indelicato) Sciarrotta. He is survived by his brother Joseph (Janet) of Avon-on-the-Lake and his twin brother, Fr. Paul of the Cleveland Diocese as well as nephews, John-Charles (Jeanette) and Joseph (Karen); grandnephews, Jason, Jacob and Jared and grandniece Katherine. Fr. Lee entered the society of Mary and professed first vows on Sept. 8, 1955 at Marcy, NY and perpetual vows on Aug. 15, 1959 at the University of Dayton. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 22, 1967 at Holy Cross Church in Cleveland. He graduated from the University of Dayton with a BA in 1959 and from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland in 1967. He taught Religion and Latin at North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA, St. Joseph High School in Cleveland, Hackett High School in Kalamazoo, MI and Chaminade High School in Toronto, Canada. He was a Vocation Recruiter briefly for the former Cincinnati Province. He was also an Associate Pastor at Holy Cross Parish in Cleveland from 1971-1973. He was Pastor at St. Catherine of Siena in Portage, MI from 1976-1981. From 1982-1988, he served as Pastor of St. Jude Parish in Langwarrin, Victoria, Australia. He was the Pastor of Emmanuel Church in Dayton from 1988 until this year when illness brought him to Mercy Siena Gardens. At Emmanuel he developed the parish's vast social outreach, offering help to Vietnamese and Rwandan refugees. Fr. Lee also had a special passion for the issues surrounding the respect for life. With Fr. Lee as Pastor, the parish tithed the weekly collection, supporting over fifty charities in the Dayton area. Through the Emmanuel Education Center, he had a special interest in supporting the many Catholic families who chose to home school. Under his guidance the Parish also contributed many academic scholarships to urban Catholic Schools, Chaminade-Julienne Students and men preparing for the priesthood. VIEWING WILL TAKE PLACE AT Emmanuel Church in Dayton FROM 4-8 P.M. ON MONDAY, SEPT. 27, 2010 WITH THE PRAYER SERVICE AT 6:30 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 followed by a reception. Burial will take place at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery at Mt. St. John on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at 10 a.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on SUNDAY, OCT. 17, 2010 AT 10:30 A.M. at the Notre Dame Education Center, 13000 Auburn Rd., Chardon, 44024.
