6-13-1895 to 3-31-1980
Born in Harnett County, North Carolina, On June 13, 1985, Robert Gade Bryant spent his early life there.
He moved to Chatham County following his marriage to the form Ms. Maude Lee. She along with 9 children of their union, survives. Eleven children were born to their union.
He pioneered in many aspects of community life, and among these were: organizing and founding of Mt. View AME Zion Church; The New Zion School; The Swinging Bridge; The Chatham County Fair Association, where he served a President for 27 years; The Chatham-Lee Credit Union; The Chatham County Farm Bureau along with other activities for improving and uplifting.
In church life, his participation included serving with the Senior Choir, with the Board of Stewards and Trustees; for 38 years, he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The Democratic process best describes his philosophy of living. The group, be it family, church, or community, was the authority based upon the majority's ruling. Cooperating with the final decision was required of good citizens. He saw and promoted the potential in each individual whose life he touched. Beauty in every living thing was seen by him.
Remembering with love his beautiful, useful life which ended on March 31, 1980, are: his wife of the home; 4 daughters: Mrs. Evelyn B. Drake of Durham, N. C.; Mrs. Nannie Gillespie of Fayetteville; Mrs. Gertrude B. Turrentine, and Mrs. Margaret B. Pollard of Rt. 1, Moncure; 5 sons: Nathaniel; Henry Louis; Harvey, and Carl Bryant of Philadelphia; and C. Wilbur Bryant of Rt. 1, Mon cure; number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; 4 sisters: Mrs. Mettie McLean of Sanford; Mrs. Evelyn Lee of Moncure; Mrs. Mamie Gunter of Sanford and Mrs. Chloe Womble of Washington, D. C.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, along with a host of family friends.
To the loving memory of Gade Bryant. You set our family up for tremendous success by your faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, love for family, and community stewardship. I am forever grateful.
