Graduation year: 2004
Deceased Date: 2016-06-12
Obituary:
In Memoriam: Capt. Antonio "Tony" Brown

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a true American hero, Capt. Antonio "Tony" Brown of the U.S. Army Reserve, who departed this world on June 16, 2016. Capt. Brown, a 2008 graduate of Florida A&M University, dedicated his life to service, embodying the principles of camaraderie, compassion, and selflessness.

A man of distinction, Capt. Brown joined the U.S. Army after completing his studies at FAMU, where he majored in criminal justice and actively participated in the ROTC program. His journey of service led him to a commendable 11-month tour in Kuwait, commencing in April 2010, and he earned the rank of captain in March 2012.

Described as a "down-to-earth guy" and a "gentle soul," Capt. Brown's genuine care for others left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His brother, James Hickey, shared heartfelt sentiments during a service, stating, "My brother was a gentle soul. He would do anything to make you smile. He would do anything to make the world smile."

Beyond his military accomplishments, Capt. Brown was a beacon of generosity and encouragement. Known for his thoughtful gestures, he would go out of his way to ensure the well-being of his friends, whether it was alerting them to sales at the supermarket or opening his home to those in need. His support extended to academic pursuits, as he actively assisted friends in researching graduate programs after their college graduation.

Capt. Brown's commitment to education was exemplified by his pursuit of knowledge, culminating in a master's in business administration from the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. At the time of his untimely passing, he was passionately working toward a doctorate degree in management in organizational leadership.

In his role as a human resources officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, Capt. Brown continued to serve with dedication and excellence. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, compassion, and unwavering commitment to others. He is survived by his loving mother, Rosetta Evans (Ellis), and brothers, James Hickey (Chante) and Jamal Maryland, who will carry on his memory with pride.

As we mourn the loss of Capt. Antonio "Tony" Brown, let us remember and celebrate the extraordinary life of a man whose impact reached far beyond the battlefield—a true inspiration and a guardian of the values we hold dear. May he rest in eternal peace.
