Highlights of the last 50 years.:
Hey guys: This ain’t no solicitation or sales pitch, but if I’m gonna write about my “Highlights over the last 50 Years”, I have to mention the following: I’m currently a somewhat sizable investor in two very intriguing, late stage, Silicon Valley based Medical Device Startups. They’re both private companies and aren’t accepting any additional investments. One has invented a new noninvasive diagnostic test for coronary artery disease ( with an accuracy rate comparable to an invasive coronary angiogram). 300,000 folks worldwide have benefited from this new diagnostic test so far, myself included. The other is a robotic company that has developed a new, unparalleled technique for the early detection of lung cancer. It’s important to catch that terrible disease early in Stage One while it's still potentially curable. If these two companies fulfill their economic destinies, then in my opinion, these technologies have the potential to save countless lives and tens, if not hundreds of billions of dollars in health care spending in the future. But then again, that’s just my opinion. Startups are notoriously risky. They fail most of the time. It’s just the nature of the beast. So, one of my highlights over the last 50 years has been the opportunity to risk my personal assets as a very small part of a pursuit that is much bigger than myself. Through these investments, I’ve enlisted as a foot soldier of sorts, and I’ve provided a relatively small amount of financial ammunition, in our nation’s ongoing wars against two of the worst diseases of our time. |
