Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): | I attended West Junior High, and was at West High for 10th grade (1969-70). My family moved to La Jolla the following summer, and that high school experience did not compare favorably to the academics or activism at West. I went to college instead of 12th grade, worked a bit, after that moved to Mexico DF in 1977, got married, returned to San Diego, went to public health school in Minnesota, then back to La Jolla. 2 kids and 5 years in higher ed administration later, we moved to Madison for the ex's first academic position. I spent the next 25 years running social services and the community center in Eagle Heights. At some point there was a divorce; 10 years later Grant McLeester and I remet, and we've been together since. Retired in 2016, but only in the report-to-work sense. I run progressive political campaigns, train BIPOC candidates & allies on how to run and win, and do non-profit admin consulting. Visit one kid in LA, another in Massachusetts, and a brother & his kids in Brooklyn -- covid, catastrophes, and campaigns permitting. |
