Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): | Retired since Jan of 2017. Sold Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance for close to 40 years. Had customers all over the country and do not miss the business travel that it required. Retired from M3 Insurance in Madison after 29 years with them. Worked at a couple other agencies and insurance carriers before that. |
---|---|
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): | Married twice, and divorced twice. Once for 4 years and once for 20 years One son, Michael who is married to a wonderful woman, and they have two grandsons that I see a lot of. They are close and are doing great in a nice big new house. They are 4 and 1. Lived on Lake Mendota for 15 years and then moved to the farm in 2004. |
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): | I have a 98 acre farm in Iowa County with a big new house in the middle of nowhere. It is great. Been through most of Europe and all of the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica and everywhere in the USA. Loved NYC and Hilton Head back in the day before the world went nuts, and still get around but like hanging at the farm with my tractors and equipment in my retirement. Flying ain't what it used to be and neither are the big cities. Country life is great. |
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): | Life is good and my plans are to enjoy it with my grandsons as long as possible. Since they are only 30 miles away. |

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): | After starting out in biochemistry, I wound up doing a PhD in theoretical physical chemistry, which enjoys the advantage of avoiding the bad smells and loud noises often associated with what we like to call "real chemistry". My physicist then-wife and I had our first jobs (after working as postdocs and surveying the bleak academic landscape) at Pacific Northwest National Laboratories in Richland Washington. When funding ran low, we moved to software engineering jobs in the Seattle area with our two small children. SInce then, I have worked at a couple of pre-IPO software companies, then 11 years at Boeing Research (opting for layoff rather than moving to Saint Louis or Alabama), and then to a small computational fluid dynamics company that has since been assimilated by Siemens. I expect to work at least a couple more years. |
---|---|
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): | Married 15 years and divorced back in 2008. Two wonderful kids. Antonia is 25 and is working as an EMT as background for applying to PA school. My son Donald just finished is PhD in algebraic number theory last month and is taking a break before job hunting (probably R&D software/applied math rather than academics). Both kids, their mom, and I are all still living north of Seattle in Mukilteo and Everett. |
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): | Both of my kids starting skiing at two years old. After the covid interruption, we have gotten back to skiing the Seattle area ski areas and will get back to Revelstoke BC as soon as the border situation allows. I like to cycle and hike in the summers here. |
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): | I do plan to retire in a couple of years, but have no plans as of now. |

Dave Waisman

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): | I received my BS in Geology from Colorado State University and my MS from the University of Montana-Missoula. I spent 16 years looking for base and precious metals and loved every minute of it. Spending someone else's money looking for gold deposits was a great time. During my early career I would say, "I can't believe they are paying me to do this". After working as an exploration geologist at a gold mine in Republic, WA for 5 years, I started a job with an environmental testing laboratory located in Kellogg, Idaho. It was a great job, still connected to metals mining and with freedom and lots of travel. I retired 2 years ago after 26 years. |
---|---|
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): | After HS I moved to Aspen to be a ski bum. Well, at least the bum part worked out. But I did meet Kathy Anderson there, so that worked out well. We have been together ever since and happily married since 1978. Since Aspen we have lived in Boulder, Fort Collins, Park City, Missoula, Republic and currently we are in Spokane. We have two amazing daughters, Monika and Sarah and two grandkids, Finley and Rowan. |
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): | Retirement is great. However, I am still involved in my hobby that for the last 20 years has been a business for me. I own and promote mineral specimen shows for the collector of fine minerals. The business is called Fine Mineral Show, LLC. I currently have a long-standing show in Tucson called the Westward Look Show, but have had shows in Dallas, Houston and San Francisco. I don't sell anything at my shows, but rather I create a selling opportunity at a venue for the top dealers of the world. It has been exciting and rewarding for 20 years. |
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): | Bucket list? It is a lengthy list still, so I am planning a long life! That's the plan at least. |

These are the places I’ve lived since high school. |

Michael Wallace

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): | I went one year to college of St. Thomas and was kindly asked not to return. Transferred to Madison and majored in pharmacy. Marquette dental school was the next stop and Tom mchugh and Fred Jager were classmates. They made the four years fun and bearable. After two years in the real world I set up my own practice and dental office. Humana and AMS hired me as a part-time dental consultant. Somewhere in there I also taught In the hygiene department at the local technical school. At the end of 2017 I retired realizing dentistry is like building ships in a bottle-only the bottle is moving and talks. |
---|---|
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): | I have two children who were born in 1995 and 96. My oldest is an insurance commission specialist here in DePere.and my youngest is finishing up dental school in Minneapolis. I’m happily divorced. Have been in a terrific relationship with wonder woman Jane. |
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): | Some volunteer dentistry to keep my fingers nimble. But my original profession was going to be a Water Skiing instructor until I realized it didn’t pay the bills. So I’m still Water Skiing, bare footing and teaching kids. Had to give up the tournaments and show Skiing but still love watching my daughter show Skiing. To cross train, I bike and row. When winter comes it’s downhill skiing with cousin Jeff Stitgen and my brother Rob. Snow bike and cross country skiing. I’ve had to become good at remodeling and fixing boats etc. so I spend time on YouTube. Rope swing engineer |
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): | We are hoping to do more traveling now that things are opening up. Europe and diving truck Lagoon are in the cards. I have a piano that is staring at me |
