Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): | I graduated from UW-Madison with a BSN in Nursing. After a few years working in Milwaukee, waiting for my now husband Brian to graduate, we got married and moved to Seattle in 1979. The first 10 years of my career were spent in newborn nursery and NICU. I then switched to Emergency Nursing which I happily practiced until my retirement in 2013. The last five years I was lead medical officer aboard Holland America cruise ships and as an officer, Brian got to come with me free! Our travels took us all around the world: from Alaska to Antarctica, the Mediterranean to Myanmar, the Caribbean, South America, Mexico and Hawaii and the South Pacific. We also spent a full summer in Europe, Iceland and Scandinavia. The travel was incredible but working with colleagues from all over the world was even better. We truly became eager to go on more so after retirement, we have been to India,Africa on safaris, Egypt and France. We are going to Greece fall of 2021. It was quite an experience both professionally and personally. On the ships, Our medical crew of 4-6 docs and nurses often had to deal with very dicey situations way away from land or hospitals. I will always be grateful for that amazing chapter in our life!! |

Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): | Brian and I celebrated our 42nd anniversary this year. Our three married daughters, Kelsey (40, an asst attorney general for the state of Washington), Caitlin ( 38, executive administrator at Microsoft) and Becky (34, a manager of digital publishing relations at Amazon) all live with their families in the Seattle area. We have 3 wonderful littles- all under age of 3. Brian and I moved to the San Juan islands back in 2006 so we are about 3 hours by car and ferry away but our families visit frequently or we go down to Redmond where we have a little condo so we can be close to them and see the kids and our Seattle friends often. |
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): | We split our time between our island home and our Redmond condo in the Seattle area. Both of us have bern retired awhile. We enjoy camping, hiking, sea kayaking, gardening and beekeeping. We are in process of getting a 38’ boat that will definitely enhance our time up here in the San Juan’s. We have signed up to join a floatilla May of 2022 to go for 6 weeks to SE Alaska which has been a bucket list wish for awhile. |
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): | Life has been an ongoing bucket list adventure!! And covid certainly taught us that life can be short.
