Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): I retired in 2017 after a career as university faculty member and administrator at Oklahoma State University.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): I married in 1983 and divorced in 2007. I have 2 gorgeous and witty daughters. A couple of years before I retired I reconnected with my college girlfriend. We are both retired and live just outside East Troy.
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): I returned to Wisconsin after retirement. I enjoy most water-related activities. Nowdays that mostly means fishing, and especially fly fishing. I also do some nature photography, hiking, snowshoeing, and biking.
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): No bucket list, really. Perhaps some non-working overseas travel, and definitely more travel in the US and Canada.

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): I have been a lawyer for over 35 years, now with the Madison law firm of Axley Brynelson, which recent merged with Carney Thorpe LLC, the small Janesville firm I had been with. Before that I ran a UAW Legal Services Plan for over 25 years. My office has always been in Janesville, Wi but work around the state. Still enjoy getting people to a better place than when they walked in the door. It is stressful work sometimes, but I am never bored. Before going to law school I spent my 20s doing radio after catching the radio bug at the end of high school. After starting in commercial radio, I landed a gig at West Virginia Public Radio out of college and then went on to spend 5 years as Program Director of the NPR station in Roanoke, VIrginia. I would not have traded that time for anything. Nor the time thereafter.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): Shortly after moving back to Madison in 1987, I had the good fortune to meet my wife Nancy and we have been married for 33 years. She retired a couple of years ago after serving as a UW Madison Academic Dean for a long time. We have a daughter, Nikki, who is a freelance artist and art therapist living in Chicago.
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): I am still real busy working and grateful to have the energy to do it. Enjoy nature, urban adventures, vegetable gardening, being as active as I can, especially riding my bike. We have lived in the Marquette neighborhood in Madison for a long time and love the vibe.
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): I hope to be able to work as long as I want to and especially looking forward to traveling more again with the pandemic subsiding. I am not a big fan of winter weather these days and envision a future with less time in it. My bucket list is mainly to live with gratitude and not take the next day for granted.

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): B.A., M.A., Ph.D. UW-Madison (my family moved in 1972, and I was determined to stay in Madison!).

First job: Lecturer in French, Baylor University, 1986-1990.

Moved to my current tenure-track job at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL, in 1990. My academic "home" is the French Department, but I also contribute to various other programs: Women's and Gender Studies, Honors, General Education, First-Year Inquiry.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): Single, no children. Lots of birds!

Moved from Madison to Waco in 1986. Left Waco for Rock Island in 1990.

Academic year 1980-81 in Paris.
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): Still teaching at Augustana. No real plans to retire for the moment!

This job has given me some great travel opportunities: two Cambodia Terms, one Amsterdam Term, one summer Faculty-Student Research Fellowship in Paris, and lots of French Summer Programs in Dijon.

Hobbies? My birds, I guess (don't ask how many! I refuse to count!). And I go to as much theatre as I can.
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): I'm still just enjoying my work. Hoping to keep teaching, traveling, and getting together with friends for as long as I can.

Cleaning my office is definitely on my bucket list, though.

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): I have been the Dance Instructor and Owner of Mary's School of Dance, LLC in Fitchburg, Oregon and Madison for 44 years. I have had children of our classmates in my dance classes over the years. Then in 2020 due to the pandemic the decision was made to close the studio. I have also worked at Smoky's Supper Club in Madison cooking steaks for the past 53 years! They just closed this past February so now I guess I am officially retired!

I am also a Past President of the Dance Masters of Wisconsin and on the Board of the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters and still involved with both organizations. I received The Wisconsin Dance Council Career Recognition Award in 2018.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): I have been married to Chuck Katic for 48 years. We have two children, John and Christina who are both married. We have two step grandchildren who are in college.
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): We have lived in our house in Fitchburg for the past 32 years. Now that we are officially retired we are planning on taking trips that we were not able to do in the past. My daughter and her husband took me to Hawaii in March for my retirement. It had been 35 years since I was there for Hawaiian dance training. It was a trip of a lifetime!
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): Traveling to see relatives and friends and enjoy each other. Life is too short!
