Went to work after college graduation in Indiana, multiple places, for DNR fisheries. Wound up at Cikana Fish Hatchery in Martinsville, Indiana. Was in Indiana for 10 years then we moved back to Minnesota and went to International Falls, MN for husbands transfer to MN Fisheries. I began working as a substitute teacher in the Falls school district and also did homebound teaching. Then moved with hubby to Ortonville, MN where I continued working in the school district in early childhood and kindergarten. Became the director of the Bonanza Eductional Center for 7 surrounding school districts doing Environmental Education for K-12 for those districts. Again moved to follow hubby for job promotion and moved to Park Rapids, MN area and wound up building our log home on 15 acres and substitute teaching in the Nevis School district, was a Reading specialist and also did hands on Science outreach in the elementary for students depending on their curriculum. Wanted to get back into my science background and took a job being an Aquatic Invasive species boat inspector for a summer job which then led to me becoming the District Manager for Hubbard County Soil and Water Conservation District putting conservation practices on the land, working with farmers, the public and other government agencies, also did wetland mitigation. I retired from this position after 7 years in Novemeber of 2019 just before the pandemic hit.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): Got married in 1978 to Doug Kingsley, also a fisheries biologist. Had two daughters Jennifer and Rachel. Jennifer and her husband Matt and two grandddaughters Katelyn (11) and Madeline (7) live in Stevens Point WI. Jen works for Portage County in water resources. Rachel lives in Hilo, Hawaii and works with the Alala Project for the reintroduction into the wild of the endangered Alala crow species on the Big Island of Hawaii. We have made it there several times and am ready to go back.
From Indiana we moved back to Minnesota to be closer to family and made the rounds of International Falls, MN, Ortonville, MN and finally wound up in Akeley, MN. to be close to Doug's office in Park Rapids, MN as DNR District Fisheries Biologist. Enough water here in this area that this is where we decided to retire and we both made it to retirement! Yipee!!
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): Today we live in Akeley, MN. I have been retired for two years and LOVING it. Love to see my Granddaughters, travel, read, camp, fish, knit.

Craig Klosterman

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): BS ME UW-Madison, MBA Wharton, 1 year at Ecole Centrale de Paris. Spent first 2 years with Mercury Marine, then two years in the early days of wind power: one year as part owner of a Sales/Service/Installation company working out of a farm shed on my cousin’s farm in Oregon, WI; and one in Sweetwater, Texas managing the US sales and future production facility for a Mexican firm entering the business. We certainly advanced the wind power industry but we were MUCH too early and both businesses failed with the collapse of oil prices when the Arab oil embargo ended. After my MBA, I moved to Silicon Valley where I ultimately became the CFO/COO of 6 different early stage tech companies, 5 of which completed IPO’s, including WebEx, Lumisys and Informatica, which all 3 have now been acquired. RingCentral (RNG) and Five9 (FIVN) still trade although Zoom is in the process of acquiring Five9. I retired early except for some charity work.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): I married an MBA classmate of mine and upon graduation, moved to the Bay Area. We have three great self-supporting kids spread around the country: San Jose, Atlanta and Brooklyn. We divorced after 20 years in 2004 and have managed to remained good friends. I moved to Madison in late 2020.
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): I live on Lake Mendota so I boat, water ski, kayak, learned to paddle board/cross country ski/snow shoe, started road biking a couple of years ago, discovered pickleball this summer and continue to enjoy snow skiing. I actually enjoyed my first winter back in Madison but I think the novelty of WI in the winter will wear off quickly.

I love to travel but Covid slowed things down. Annual trips include skiing out west, Car Week in Monterrey/Carmel, and any other car shows around the country as an excuse to travel to nice places and party. My last non-recurring trips were in late 2019 to Japan with my kids and Burning Man with the guys.

Joe Knight

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): 34 years as reporter/outdoor editor, Eau Claire Leader Telegram newspaper.

Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): Retired, residing in rural Eau Claire. Eau Claire County Board Supervisor. Hobbies include outdoor stuff and traveling. Still doing some writing.
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): We just had a large Italian wedding for our daughter (not really a destination wedding because she married and Italian). Complete my political career so I can travel more. Finish 20th Birkebeiner this winter.

Susie Koch

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): Graduated from Lawrence University in 1976, majoring in English, with a touch of women’s studies and a secondary teaching certificate. During that time I was a Girl Scout camp counselor, my first job (not including babysitting). I received a Masters in Library Science in 1981, then worked as librarian in two libraries in Chicago. I relocated to California to be the Associate Director of Community Services for the Pasadena Public Library. It was a dream job! With nine branch libraries under my wing, I worked with everyone from movie stars to the impoverished, and all the unique neighborhoods in between. I also directed children’s, teens, and adult programs at the historic Central library. During that time I received another Masters in Women’s studies in religion.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): In my college years I spent six months in London and traveling in Europe. In my 20’S I lived in Milwaukee and Chicago, back and forth, working various jobs.
In 1986 I moved to Pasadena, CA. I stayed for 25 years.
I married Mark Gegenhuber in 1987, sadly he died in 2009. He had been a candy industry consultant, but switched to paralegal. I retired and came back to Madison in 2010 to care for aging parents and my autistic brother.
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): Retired and in Madison. I am very attached to my family in Portland, OR, and here in the state. I’m also co-owner of a forest conservatory in CT which has been in my family for 120 years. I worked very hard on the 2018 midterm campaign, which I am starting again for 2022. No kids or grandkids. My intellectually challenged brother lives nearby and we spend a lot of time together. Caretaking him takes a lot of time and energy. In addition to the time in London, I’ve been to all continental US states, plus Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. My favorite roadtrip is up and down the California coast. I’ve been to just about everywhere you can get to on a long weekend in CA. Now I go to the Northwest and Northeast, preferring train to to plane (but not during covid). With two years inside now, it’s reading, streaming, home projects, adopting 2 entertaining kittens and stomaching the daily horrific news. We also upgraded my brother’s condo so now I have more technological and home repair skills than I ever knew possible.
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): One day at a time! I’d like to build a larger friendship group, as the caretaking had made it difficult for me to branch out and settle in with a social life here in town. I do have a few small trips planned to catch up with friends and family elsewhere.

Jeff Korenic

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): I graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Geology. I worked up in Alaska several years, in the oil industry, commuting between my home in San Diego and Anchorage about every month. In order to stay more local to San Diego, I changed careers by earning an IT degree, allowing me to work in the computer industry. Over the next 30 years, I worked for three technical companies. My job titles ranged from System Engineer, Engineering Manager, Data Center Manager, Development Manager, and Project Manager. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to work on several projects in Europe, Australia, Thailand, and China.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): While living in the San Diego area, I was married for about 25 years, before getting a divorce. I have a son, Cale, who was born in San Diego but now lives in Wauwatosa, WI with his wife Katie and their 21 month old daughter, Caydence. I enjoy visiting them about twice a month. I moved from the San Diego area back to the Madison area in 2007, and was very fortunate to meet Jaci (pictured above) in 2012. She is a wonderful partner and we have been happily living together for many years now, in Middleton.
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): I have been retired for 3 years now. The fall that I retired, Jaci and I rode our bicycles from Middleton to New Orleans. The trip took six weeks and we rode 1630 miles. The picture of Jaci and I was taken in New Orleans, about an hour after we arrived (I needed a shower and a shave first before beers and food). Jaci and I stay active walking the dog, riding bikes, kayaking, hiking, and camping. We like the outdoors and have been getting involved in planting patches of prairie flowers, gardening, and learning about soils and farming.
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): Jaci and I would like to do some more backpacking. We are looking at hiking the Superior Hiking Trail and possibly the Colorado Trail. We would like to do some more bicycle touring. Our next trip may be riding around Lake Michigan. Also, walking the Camino de Santiago, in Spain, is on the list of things to do.

Lisa Korf

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): I graduated from UW-Madison. Before getting my first teaching job, I was a substitute teacher and waitress in the Madison area. I taught in the Mauston district for 33 years—-first grade, third grade, and a third/fourth combination classroom. Then I subbed in the Mauston and Wisconsin Dells districts for about 8 years—-mostly Pre-K through fourth grade.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): I’m very close to my sister and brother-in-law, who live in Fitchburg. My treasured niece and nephew have another aunt and an uncle both from our class—-Karen and Scott Whitsitt.
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): I live in the Wisconsin Dells area and love getting together with family and friends. I’m lucky that three of our classmates are close friends who live in Madison that I have enjoyed seeing often.
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): I’m looking forward to getting together more often again with friends. Also, I went on a cruise for the first time with family a couple of years ago and eventually would love to go again.

Stephen Krival

Work life? (e.g., education, first job, occupation): I worked as an environmental health and human scientist, first for the State of California EPA until 1997 where I managed the cleanup of chemical hazardous wastes released to the environment, then after returning to graduate school, I was hired by the University of Washington School of Public Health Toxicology Program where I conducted research on human health risks associated with the inhalation of nanoparticles. Towards the end of my career I was an environmental consultant supporting legal actions brought by environmental groups under the citizen's suit clause of the Federal Clean Water Act. I retired in 2016.

I earned degrees in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Biology from Eastern Washington University, and Environmental Toxicology from the University of Washington.
Family life? (e.g., spouse, kids/grandkids, friends, places lived): My family is my girl-friend, her dog Lucky, and her infinite number of relatives.
Doing today? (e.g., where do you live, working or retired, hobbies, travels): I live in Seattle, WA and am currently trying to set-up a second home in Central America with my girl-friend who is Nicaraguan. We like meeting interesting people, wildlife trekking, photography, and plotting to overthrow right-wing and left-wing dictatorships all over the world.
Bucket list? (e.g., plans for the future, travel): I am headed back to Central America in the fall where I will stay until the medications run out.
