Scott Jensen
1954-01-18 2010-05-29
Scott Jensen was a lively Randall and West Junior High classmate. He died on May 29, 2010.
His family moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1969 where they managed a resort, Loba Lodge. Scott’s maternal grandparents remained in Shorewood and his entire life he maintained ties to many of his Madison friends.
Scott graduated from Prescott High School. He furthered his education with a B.S. in business administration, summa cum laude, at Northern Arizona University. Ultimately, Scott found he loved working with his hands and became an expert in drywall construction.
For much of his life Scott was an ardent Christian. He had a brief marriage with a fellow evangelical Christian when he was in his twenties.
In his early fifties Scott suffered a burst aorta. Heroic efforts kept him alive: he was sedated for a lengthy period and flown to another state for specialized care.
He recovered, but with a pig’s heart valve in his chest. Tim Athan and his wife hiked with Scott a couple years after Scott's recovery. Yet Scott had a sense that he would not have a long life, an expectation that he viewed with equanimity.
A tribute from his family:
We have lost our beloved Scott. Too early in his life and ours, Scott died on May 29, 2010, at age 56.
Born in Madison, Wis., Jan. 18, 1954, and growing up in Arizona, Scott graduated from Prescott High School. He furthered his education with a B.S. in business administration, summa cum laude, at Northern Arizona University. Ultimately, Scott found he loved working with his hands more and became an expert in drywall construction. A very happy part of his life was working with his buddies at Chartier's Drywall. "Tell Chartier's Drywall that it was the best job I ever had and I love them all."
Scott's passions were spending time with family, working hard, playing around with his dogs and cheering for the Suns. Always caring of others, any spare money went to other people's needs, yet he delighted in taking his mother's money betting at Wheel of Fortune. He always made sure to spend quality time with all his nieces and nephews. They loved his wacky sense of humor.
The essence of Scott was total honesty, a little stubbornness (sometimes even more), a genuine love for people, custodian of faith, and belief that everything would turn out well. He will be dearly missed by his mother, Virginia Jensen Balentine; brothers Michael (Mary), Neil and Jim Jensen; sisters Nancy Jensen (Craig Aper) and Lauren Ifflander (Jim); stepbrothers John (Vicki) and Howard (Deborah) Balentine; stepsister Nancy Balentine; nieces and nephews Katy, Cassie, Patrick and Susie Jensen of Cincinnati, Ohio, A. J. and Grant Ifflander from Tempe, Tessa (Monty Buntin), Michael, Hillary and Anna Aper, Sarah and Ben Jensen, Caitlin Goodhart from Prescott; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers and his special friend, Helen LaBarbera. His father John William Jensen and stepfather William (Bobo) Balentine preceded Scott in death.
A celebration of Scott's life will be 4 p.m. Sunday, June 6 at Loba Lodge, 3550 Senator Highway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yavapai Humane Society, 1605 Sundog Road, Prescott, AZ 86301, in honor of Scott's great love for animals.
Oh Scott, how we shall miss you. We realize that you are in God's keeping. We know that loving family and friends will greet you and that your life flows on with the currents of eternity. We have not lost you. You have only gone ahead.
