Wild Walk builds on a beloved tradition that began in 2004 with the Gorilla Run—a volunteer-led fundraiser supporting the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s conservation efforts. Over the years, the event evolved in both name and format, becoming the Wild Run through a long-standing partnership with Run Calgary, which continued through 2024. Now, this vibrant community event enters an exciting new chapter with the launch of Wild Walk—inviting everyone to lace up their walking shoes to support wildlife conservation.  

This exciting new event invites walkers of all ages to begin their journey at the Calgary Zoo’s north gates at 9:00 a.m., winding through every major zone of the zoo and ending with an after-party celebration on the Asia Lawn at 10:00 a.m.  Each step is a step for conservation with donations and walk proceeds supporting the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo!

Participants are encouraged to fundraise individually or as a team, and to show off their team spirit in any way they can—there will be fun prizes for both top fundraisers and those that show the most spirit!

All Wild Walk participants receive free zoo admission on event day and exclusive early access to the zoo. As you walk, you’ll view special animal enrichment along the Wild Walk route, followed by a lively after-party, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Asia Lawn, complete with live entertainment, games, and a buffet-style breakfast!

Be Prepared!

Wild Walk is an outdoor adventure, and you never know what suprises nature might bring! 

• Dress for the weather, the majority of this event takes place outdoors
• Remember to wear comfy footwear! The zoo is a big place and you will be walking a large part of it for this event
• Show your spirit! Feel free to dress up—but please no masks  
• Strollers and wagons are welcome at this event
• Parking is $13 and is not included. Wild Journey members receive free parking if they have successfully registered with ParkPlus
