I started working for Coolidge Wall Co., LPA in 1995 and I've been here 28 years. I hope to retire in 2025. I was married for 31 years when I lost my husband in 2008 to pancreatic cancer. He was only 54 and had just passed his 25 years as a police officer with the City of Dayton. We had four children. Our oldest Katie has been married to her husband since 2004 and they have two children McKenzie age 17 and Ethan age 16. Erin our middle daughter has been married since 2007 and she has three children Luke, age 14, Matthew, age 12 and Grace, age 9. My youngest daughter Ashley has been married since 2016 and they have one daughter, Sophia who will be 5 in November. My youngest child Philip has autism. Despite this, he earned an associate degree at Sinclair and has worked at Grandview Hospital since 2011. Even though life threw me a curve ball with David's passing, I feel blessed to have had a good life with a wonderful family.

What Are You Up To Now:
Greetings fellow 1973 Classmates! I want to first give a thumbs up to all of us who have lived long enough to see these past 50 years, and also pause to remember those who are no longer with us. In some eyes, I may not have accomplished great fame and fortune, but I have no regrets. I have enjoyed a simple life and am content. My best friend, Mike, and I have been married for the last 46 ½ years. We have four amazing daughters who are married to wonderful men, plus four grandchildren and one more due in December. Mike was a journeyman carpenter before moving into management. We were blessed to have him work for the same company for 42 years. His job gave me the opportunity to have a semi- part-time job as a painter/wallcovering installer. I plan to retire by the end of this year. I have one last client/friend’s house to complete before I hang up my brushes for hire. All these blessings are from my Savior, Jesus Christ. Yes, I am a Christian. I have attended the same Bible-believing church for over 43 years. Fourteen years ago, God granted me saving grace from breast cancer. I was diagnosed six months after my first cousin had died. Also, my grandmother, oldest sister, and several other cousins had also died of this terrible disease. I now have a new perspective on what truly is important to me in this walk-through life. Not my chosen path, but I certainly learned who I was and how I wanted to walk to the end of my time here on earth. My husband’s and my jobs have afforded us the skills to remodel our daughters/son-in-law’s homes and two houses of our own. We began our final project – restoring an old farmhouse as our retirement “cabin” – across the street from where our third daughter and her family live. (The property they live on is where my husband grew up.) Many believed we should have just torn down the old farmhouse and started anew, but after an architect looked at the oak framing, he said it had good bones for the project. From gutting the entire two-story house of lathe and plaster walls and ceiling to installing new walls, ceilings, electric, plumbing, and HVAC. It has been all-hands-on-deck and a labor of love the past 5 ½ years. People tease us that our hobby is to work on old houses, but we do like to make old things look new. Our daughters, sons-in-law, and even grandkids have worked long, hard hours to make this house into our home. I loved designing the interior of the old house. It also kept us busy and safe during Covid. Our other hobbies are gardening, flowers and vegetables, and fishing. But our greatest joy is spending time with our family and friends. Life, as we all have learned, has its positives and negatives and most have been positive for me. I am so honored to have this opportunity to apologize to any of you that I may have in some way hurt or offended. I have learned over the last 50 years that it is good for me to admit my mistakes and go forward. In closing this long tale, I pray all of you enjoy your remaining years!

What Are You Up To Now:
Another 10 years, life continues on! In 2013, I was working full time at Assurant, as an Unit Manager in charge of 13 Associates, processing property claim checks for home owners having damages (tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, fires, hail, wind, etc.) to their homes. My team focused on CitiMortgage and US Bank claims. I created an efficient procedure for processing the property claim checks. Management realized property claim checks could be processed all during one shift (the first shift), and I was released from Assurant in April, 2015. It was a June summer day, my Sister (Ann Neibel Hinders) recently retired, and I planning our days filled with shopping, lunching, and having long conversations with our Texas cousins. I received a phone call from a Dayton Horse Show friend, telling me she knew I wasn't currently working, and I must come and work with her at Superior Talent Resources, a Staffing Agency. She explained it was a temporary, 90 day position, in her office covering for the Office Staffing Coordinator while she was out on maternity leave. My friend stressed the responsibilities included primarily answering the phone and doing some light filing. As a Staffing Coordinator, you assist onboarding candidates (complying employment documents, taking drug tests, and verifying background screening results), answering the phone, and do some heavy office filing plus mailing. The 90 day temporary position became permanent. I have been working with Superior Talent Resources (now called Acara Solutions) for eight years. In November, 2016, I returned to Elder Beerman, at the Dayton Mall Store, to work as a part time Sales Associate. It was easy, as only the people had changed. With the increase in on-line shopping, brick and mortar department stores were struggling. After another tough holiday season, in August, 2018, BonTon Stores (the governing company) closed all the Elder Beerman Stores. Again, I retired from retailing. Currently, there are no plans to retire from working full time from Acara Solutions. Family is important! In 2014, our family celebrated the wedding of my Niece, Sarah Hinders to Steven Dickson. Sarah and Steven have blessed us with three cute, little, girls Grace Eileen (age 6), Meredith Katherine (age 4), and Charlotte Mae (5 months). They are energized, very busy, and ask many questions to learn everything they possibly can. They all live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, but they come to visit “Nanna” and “Poppy” (my Sister and Brother-in-Law) often, so we get to spend time together then. Two weeks after my Niece was married, my Sister and Brother-in-Law left Columbus, Ohio and moved back to Dayton. They live only ten minutes from me, which is nice and convenient, having them near. We visit every Monday night when we play Trivia at the Submarine House. Ironically, I got involved with Trivia through a Sorority Sister, who knew Bill and Lois Shaw. Bill and Lois are the Founders of the Trivia Team, now called “Former Fridays”. Bill and Lois, living in Tennessee, come back to Dayton each month to visit family and join us for Trivia. This provides me an opportunity to visit with Bill and Lois frequently, while playing Trivia. When time allows, I make trips to Texas to visit my Cousins and Uncle. Getting together with them is so FUN and we laugh till we cry! I am still volunteering! I have been an active member of the Dayton Horse Show Association Board since 1997. In 2017, the Montgomery County Fairgrounds closed and was sold to the Miami Valley Hospital and the University of Dayton. For over 100 years the Montgomery County Fairgrounds was home to the annual Dayton Horse Show. Due to the Fairgrounds closing, the Dayton Horse Show moved to the Clark County Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ohio. We missed one year due to COVID, otherwise the Dayton Horse Show has continued to grow and be successful. Although joining a Sorority is often considered a college activity. I have made it a lifetime commitment, and continue to participate in Alpha Delta Pi through the Gem City Alumnae Association, the Dayton Alumnae Panhellenic Association (DAPA), and Chi Chapter at Wittenberg University, in Springfield Ohio. Currently, I am the President (2023-2024), for the second time, of the Dayton Alumnae Panhellenic Association (DAPA). Since 2007, I have actively been involved with the annual DAPA Luncheon, creating the Fashion Show, and collecting the Silent Auction items to raise funds for awarding DAPA Scholarships to Greek Collegiate Women. For over 20 years, I have been a Chapter Advisor for Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Chapter, at Wittenberg University. First, as the Event Management (Social) Advisor, now as the Executive Chapter Advisor. In the Fall of 2019, the Housing Corporation President called me to inform me the “Housing Director has resigned, and left the Sorority Chapter House”. I immediately responded saying, “I will be there to stay at the Sorority House tonight”. That one night's stay turned into being the Housing Director for 18 months, involving a lot of driving, early mornings, and late nights to cover the responsibilities of a House Director, and sleeping overnight in the Sorority House. I will always do what needs to be done for Alpha Delta Pi! I was never so proud as being at the 2022 Convention when Chi Chapter won the highest Collegiate Award “The Golden Lion Award”. It was a time for celebration for ALL! Overall, it is a great challenge, advising, mentoring, and watching these young women grow. Another milestone is when you see them at Sorority Training Events or Conventions, now as Chapter Advisors, or have taken other Alpha Delta Pi Officer positions, or winning “Alumni Of The Year” awards. You realize you are making a difference! In my extra time, I enjoy gardening, going to the movies, attending sports games, concerts, local festivals, theatre productions, and having a leisurely dinner with friends. In conclusion, I keep moving, living, and loving what I do! Life goes on.....

Lois and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary this year - it looks like it’s going to last ! After ( 46 ) years in the automotive industry, I retired in 2019. The years in engineering and program mgt were certainly challenging at times but allowed me to travel to ( 32 ) countries including living in Germany for ( 3 ) years. In 2021, we moved to Tennessee to be close to our youngest daughter Emily and her family including ( 2 ) grandsons ( 19 months and 4 yrs ). We still return to Dayton about every 6 weeks to see our oldest daughter Erin and grandson ( 10 yrs ). We are now working on our retirement plan to see more of the USA !

What Are You Up To Now:
I’m a lawyer at Coolidge Wall, the region’s oldest law firm, where I practice estate planning and tax law in downtown Dayton. Our building is only a block from The Victoria, formerly The Victory Theatre where some of us used to watch midnight movies and afterwards drive all the way to east Dayton on First Street, timing the lights so that we never had to stop. There’s a Wilbur Wright vibe at the firm - Sharon Flagg Donnell’s office is just across the hall from mine and Tommy Ridenour’s son, Marc, is the firm’s irreplaceable receptionist. In May I completed a 6-year term on the Women's Board of Dayton Children's Hospital, a 40-women board whose mission is to raise money for specific hospital projects. I’m in my 12th year on the Board of Trustees of the Wright Memorial Public Library, an absolutely beautiful library located in the heart of Oakwood that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Steve is the Director of the Montgomery County Transportation Improvement District where he specializes in funding large economic development and transportation projects. In his spare time, he heads up the Speech and Debate program at Oakwood High School. Our son, Sam, graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in microbiology, followed by an MBA, then graduated from Case Western Medical School. Sam is now a physician at the Wexner, Ross Heart, James Cancer Center, and Nationwide Childrens Hospitals in Columbus. Steve and I are Alabama football fans (their home games are epic). We’ve been in a couple’s book club for 30 years. We vacation each summer with a large group of family and friends on Bald Head Island in North Carolina and then head to Canada for the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. We have two white standard poodles, Madeline and Lily, and live in a Century Home (built in 1912) in Oakwood. My Mother is still beautiful at 88, independent, and active. In fact, many people think she’s my sister (“Older sister,” I remind them). I’ll close with one of my favorite quotes from William Shakespeare’s As You Like It: “All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts...” I’m grateful for the part that my Wilbur Wright classmates played in my life and am looking forward to reconnecting at our 50th reunion. Hoping to see you all soon!
