What Are You Up To Now:
Another 10 years, life continues on! In 2013, I was working full time at Assurant, as an Unit Manager in charge of 13 Associates, processing property claim checks for home owners having damages (tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, fires, hail, wind, etc.) to their homes. My team focused on CitiMortgage and US Bank claims. I created an efficient procedure for processing the property claim checks. Management realized property claim checks could be processed all during one shift (the first shift), and I was released from Assurant in April, 2015. It was a June summer day, my Sister (Ann Neibel Hinders) recently retired, and I planning our days filled with shopping, lunching, and having long conversations with our Texas cousins. I received a phone call from a Dayton Horse Show friend, telling me she knew I wasn't currently working, and I must come and work with her at Superior Talent Resources, a Staffing Agency. She explained it was a temporary, 90 day position, in her office covering for the Office Staffing Coordinator while she was out on maternity leave. My friend stressed the responsibilities included primarily answering the phone and doing some light filing. As a Staffing Coordinator, you assist onboarding candidates (complying employment documents, taking drug tests, and verifying background screening results), answering the phone, and do some heavy office filing plus mailing. The 90 day temporary position became permanent. I have been working with Superior Talent Resources (now called Acara Solutions) for eight years. In November, 2016, I returned to Elder Beerman, at the Dayton Mall Store, to work as a part time Sales Associate. It was easy, as only the people had changed. With the increase in on-line shopping, brick and mortar department stores were struggling. After another tough holiday season, in August, 2018, BonTon Stores (the governing company) closed all the Elder Beerman Stores. Again, I retired from retailing. Currently, there are no plans to retire from working full time from Acara Solutions. Family is important! In 2014, our family celebrated the wedding of my Niece, Sarah Hinders to Steven Dickson. Sarah and Steven have blessed us with three cute, little, girls Grace Eileen (age 6), Meredith Katherine (age 4), and Charlotte Mae (5 months). They are energized, very busy, and ask many questions to learn everything they possibly can. They all live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, but they come to visit “Nanna” and “Poppy” (my Sister and Brother-in-Law) often, so we get to spend time together then. Two weeks after my Niece was married, my Sister and Brother-in-Law left Columbus, Ohio and moved back to Dayton. They live only ten minutes from me, which is nice and convenient, having them near. We visit every Monday night when we play Trivia at the Submarine House. Ironically, I got involved with Trivia through a Sorority Sister, who knew Bill and Lois Shaw. Bill and Lois are the Founders of the Trivia Team, now called “Former Fridays”. Bill and Lois, living in Tennessee, come back to Dayton each month to visit family and join us for Trivia. This provides me an opportunity to visit with Bill and Lois frequently, while playing Trivia. When time allows, I make trips to Texas to visit my Cousins and Uncle. Getting together with them is so FUN and we laugh till we cry! I am still volunteering! I have been an active member of the Dayton Horse Show Association Board since 1997. In 2017, the Montgomery County Fairgrounds closed and was sold to the Miami Valley Hospital and the University of Dayton. For over 100 years the Montgomery County Fairgrounds was home to the annual Dayton Horse Show. Due to the Fairgrounds closing, the Dayton Horse Show moved to the Clark County Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ohio. We missed one year due to COVID, otherwise the Dayton Horse Show has continued to grow and be successful. Although joining a Sorority is often considered a college activity. I have made it a lifetime commitment, and continue to participate in Alpha Delta Pi through the Gem City Alumnae Association, the Dayton Alumnae Panhellenic Association (DAPA), and Chi Chapter at Wittenberg University, in Springfield Ohio. Currently, I am the President (2023-2024), for the second time, of the Dayton Alumnae Panhellenic Association (DAPA). Since 2007, I have actively been involved with the annual DAPA Luncheon, creating the Fashion Show, and collecting the Silent Auction items to raise funds for awarding DAPA Scholarships to Greek Collegiate Women. For over 20 years, I have been a Chapter Advisor for Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Chapter, at Wittenberg University. First, as the Event Management (Social) Advisor, now as the Executive Chapter Advisor. In the Fall of 2019, the Housing Corporation President called me to inform me the “Housing Director has resigned, and left the Sorority Chapter House”. I immediately responded saying, “I will be there to stay at the Sorority House tonight”. That one night's stay turned into being the Housing Director for 18 months, involving a lot of driving, early mornings, and late nights to cover the responsibilities of a House Director, and sleeping overnight in the Sorority House. I will always do what needs to be done for Alpha Delta Pi! I was never so proud as being at the 2022 Convention when Chi Chapter won the highest Collegiate Award “The Golden Lion Award”. It was a time for celebration for ALL! Overall, it is a great challenge, advising, mentoring, and watching these young women grow. Another milestone is when you see them at Sorority Training Events or Conventions, now as Chapter Advisors, or have taken other Alpha Delta Pi Officer positions, or winning “Alumni Of The Year” awards. You realize you are making a difference! In my extra time, I enjoy gardening, going to the movies, attending sports games, concerts, local festivals, theatre productions, and having a leisurely dinner with friends. In conclusion, I keep moving, living, and loving what I do! Life goes on.....
