1963 - 2013
If you asked Dwayne, though, he "was 15 ½"! He was truly a boy in the body of a giant teddy bear of a man. His love for family and friends was matched only by his love of tradition.
Dwayne fought the good fight every day, having lived with diabetes which eventually required him to be on dialysis for several hours six days a week. Pneumonia sent him on this last trip to the hospital, but it was his weakened heart (physically, not emotionally) that took him in the end.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 16 years, Katherine, whose extra special caregiving allowed Dwayne many more years of life; his mother, Carol Spalding; brother, Chris Garton; and sister-in-law, Gaylene Garton. He also leaves many other special aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Dwayne was predeceased by his loving grandma and grandpa, Virginia and Jack Kennedy, who were more like parents to him; his cousin, Terry Hope; and his brother and best buddy, Greg Garton, just five months earlier.
Dwayne went to college at age 32 and worked hard to earn his teaching certificate. He was a big sports nut, and number one fan of his nephews and cousins, taking action shots with his camera while they wrestled, played baseball, soccer or tennis. He was most recently coaching his young cousin on the finer points of football, well remembered from his days on the line as #76 at Cascade High School (class of 1981).
His interests ranged from nostalgic TV to the Peanuts Gang and J.P. Patches. He also loved camping at Kalaloch.
Dwayne asked his special thanks be extended to the staff at the Puget Sound Kidney Center, especially the "Home Training Department" for making it possible for him to be on home dialysis. He also wanted a shout out to Dr. Salwa Labib, who was tough, fair and really smart! He knows he was her favorite patient.
We miss you already, Dwayne. RIP. And - in Dwayne's words, "Bruins Rule, Seagulls Drool!"

On July 15, 1963, Deirdre Diane Greer was given the gift of life and on January 8, 2018, she was called back to our Lord. Saying goodbye is never easy, but she lived a rich life filled with adventures, blessed relationships, and hearty laughter. She tackled recurring bouts of cancer the same way she tackled all of life: with fierceness and determination. Even in her last days, she was adamant about living life on her terms, surrounded by family in the comfort of her own home.
Deirdre was born in Lynnwood, WA, the third daughter of Nanci (Gockley, Greer) Lee and Curtis Greer. She graduated from Cascade High School in Everett, WA in 1981, and went on to graduate from the University of Washington Nursing School four years later. Deirdre's drive to live fully and follow the word of God led her to dedicate six years of her life to serving the medical needs of the people in Helene, Honduras; people whom she loved completely. Coming home to battle her cancer, she continued a life of service by
joining Providence Home Health Care in Spokane, WA, so she could be near her son Jason and daughter-in-law Chantale Morgenstern.
She was passionately devoted to her family, including two sets of parents: her mother Nanci and stepfather David Lee, her father Curt and stepmother Barbara Greer; siblings Lisa Wandler, Sheila Dorst, Daphne Brandley, Sylvia LeRahl, Anita Lundeen, Dave Lee, Bryan, John, Randy, and Gary Davis; Jason and Chantale Morgenstern; grandchildren: Aubrie, Wyatt,
and Cody Morgenstern, who captured her heart like no other; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also enveloped countless friends into her loving circle, many of whom she considered family. Above all else, she committed her life to her relationship with Christ Jesus. Deirdre is now at peace and, while there will be no more late-night crafting sessions or warm hugs, heaven just received one amazing, free-spirited soul.
We offer special thanks to Eileen Davis, who made it possible for her to return home in her final days, and to Pastor Denny and his wife Linda, who eased her path home to Jesus.

Timothy Alan Thornton, 58, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 29, 2021, in Mount Vernon, WA. Born in Everett, WA to Lyman and Marjorie Thornton, Tim grew up in Everett and graduated from Cascade High School class of 1981.
Tim was a natural athlete, a fierce competitor and worthy opponent. He loved hockey, baseball, basketball and golf. He was a walking encyclopedia of facts and statistics.
His favorite times were playing croquet and pinochle with his family. He enjoyed camping, hiking, ferry rides, endless days on the beach playing bocce ball and searching for sand dollars rain or shine, and reading late into the night eating cookies and milk. He loved music, especially live music and attended as many venues as he possibly could.
He was a hopeless romantic, making handwritten and decorated cards, and searching for just the right thoughtful gifts, cooking special meals, and spending evenings dancing in the kitchen. He kept his home filled with flowers and enjoyed filling up the gardens every Spring and Fall. He would often take these flowers to friends and family.
Tim was a kind and generous “give you the shirt off his back” kind of guy. He had an incredible mind and imagination focused giving and helping others. He spent time giving food and clothing to the homeless and donating to the community food banks and shelters. Tim believed in equal rights for everyone.
