Imagine what it would be like to not be able to speak clearly, where people couldn't understand what you were trying to say. There are Calgary children and youth that have this difficulty - it's called Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a severe neurological motor planning disorder that significantly impairs an individual's ability to communicate.

Children with CAS face profound challenges in articulating sounds, syllables, and words, making it a daily struggle to convey their thoughts and feelings. This condition not only affects their ability to communicate but also leads to co-occurring learning difficulties related to reading and writing.

Calgary Apraxia is on a mission to change this narrative. We are a dedicated charity organization that stands unwaveringly by the side of families affected by CAS. Our aim is to provide a lifeline for these children, offering them a safe and nurturing environment in which they can thrive. Our empowering summer camps, designed exclusively for children with CAS, provide the support and acceptance they need to grow and develop their speech skills.

Here's a touching quote from one of the children who attended our summer camp:

"I felt like I could finally be me at the camp. No one laughed or got frustrated when I couldn't talk as well as others. I made friends who understood me, and it was the best feeling ever."

We are also in the process of creating a year-round program to ensure continuous support. Unfortunately, traditional camps and programs often struggle to meet the unique language needs of these children, underscoring the vital nature of our efforts. By joining hands with us, you can make a profound impact on the lives of these children and their families. Your support enables us to continue our essential programs, conduct awareness campaigns, provide crucial resources, and organize community events to assist families impacted by Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
