Occupation: Piano teacher, church musician
Comment:
After HS I studied music education and organ performance at Calvin College. I’ve used my music ed in school settings teaching middle school music appreciation and directing and accompanying middle school and high school choirs. I’ve also been involved in church music ministry since high school playing organ, keyboard, piano, directing choirs, planning services, etc. I continue to teach both online and in-person piano lessons with my current student age span from 4-90!

I’ve been married to Tim for 47 years, and he works as a wealth advisor. We have five children and seven wonderful grandchildren.
We enjoy traveling, biking and especially hanging out with our kids and grandkids!

We moved from Grand Rapids to central IL in 1997 for a job change for Tim. We purchased a condo in Holland in 2020 where we spend a lot of time, and we plan to move there permanently when we fully retire.

I’m looking forward to seeing many former classmates!

Comment:
I was accepted to Bronson Methodist Hospital Sch of Nursing/ WMU in my junior year of HS and could not wait to get out of WMCHS to get on to my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse that I had since the 2nd grade. After graduation I moved to Grand Rapids and worked at Butterworth Hospital as charge nurse on the Surgical Critical Care Step down Unit. I met my husband on a blind date and married in 1982. We had 2 children Kimberly and Brian.
After kids, I decided to change jobs to work part-time, still for the Butterworth system working at one of first Urgent Care Centers in the country. Working the evening shift gave me time to volunteer at the kids school, fulfilling another dream of being a Mom and still nursing . They continue to be my best and greatest accomplishments.
In 1999 my husband's job transferred us to Louisville , KY. Again I worked part time for the Norton Health System in an Urgent Care, Loved living in KY and met many wonderful people. We stayed just long enough to learn to say "hey" and "Y'all"
Next move took us to Columbus Ohio area. Worked again in an Urgent Care owned by a terrific group of ER physicians. With my daughter at OSU and son in HS , My husband was transferred again. This time to CT. My son and I stayed in OH so he could finish out his senior year . After renovating a 1920s old house in CT, my husband lost his job.
In 2008 we moved for a new job, this time for me , back in Columbus Oh working in the employee health clinic of a private research and development company. Most of the research was by government contract, which as a first responder required training at USAMRIID and the Aberdeen Proving Grounds for chemical and biological defense. At the age of 54 I was 1 of only 6 civilians and oldest female in the training, doing field exercises in the woods of Maryland in full MOPP gear. Never in my wildest dreams!
I have developed a great appreciation for what it takes, behind the scenes, to keep this country safe. It is beyond science fiction and the most fascinating experience of my life. You can ask me about some of the things I learned .... but I may need to kill you.
In 2010 l divorced after 28 years of marriage. I continue to live in Columbus, OH area since both kids are here, married and I have 2 grandkids. Currently I work for a large health care management company reviewing complex spinal surgical cases from my home office. The word "retirement " is not yet in my vocabulary. I hope to be able to say I was a nurse for 50 years. ONLY 3 years to go!
I enjoy hiking the metro parks, biking in the warmer months, gardening, quilting, my toy Schnauzer, the grands and recently took up watercolor painting. Just staying active to stay healthy and age with grace.
The "bucket list" of things to accomplish and places to see remains long
I am currently undecided about attending.

After graduation, I married and raised 3 kids. 30 years later... I started a new chapter in my life and experienced what being on my own really meant in every avenue of my life. Dating, again, was a little scary but kind of fun. The stories I could tell! I met an awesome guy, whose last name is actually Ausema. Our love for God, each other, Blues music, and karaoking has kept us together for the last 14 years.
I've been a stay at home mom, an administrative assistant for 10 years, and a department manager in a retail store but my favorite role, right now, is grandma. There are 6 with age from 2 to 24.
After moving to Grand Rapids, attending Grand Rapids First Church, retiring in 2020, and doing quite a bit of volunteering, my life is pretty busy.-in a good way. Volunteering has opened my eyes to people and situations in all areas and social positions in life. It, also, gives me material from real people to draw from in pursuing my lifelong ambition to write. With one poem published already, I'm on a roll. lol.
I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone in September!

Jim and I live in Holland. We have been married for 42 years and have 2 children and 2 grand children. Our daughter lives in Saint Petersburg, FL with her husband and their 2 dogs. Our son lives in Holland with his wife and 2 children, ages 7 and 14 ( who are the joy of my life).
In 1981, I got my Cosmetology license and in 1991, I opened my own beauty shop in my home so that I could be at home with my kids as they were growing up. I still work part time and enjoy it.
We love being outdoors - boating, kayaking, camping, hiking, biking. I also enjoy cardio drumming. Just trying to stay strong and healthy.

I can hardly believe that half a century has passed since our graduation night! So many memories, so much has changed.

My first marriage (to Tom Sneller) was blessed with four children, and eventually six grandsons. We lost Brent, our oldest, to colon cancer nearly ten years ago. Brent was also a WMC grad. He loved life, loved being a dad, and is dearly missed by all who loved him.

I graduated from MCC as a RN in my early 40s, and my nursing career was spent at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon. I met John there, and we’ve been married for almost 13 years. During that time, we’ve made many trips to Oregon to see the four grandsons who live there, and we enjoy the two youngest who live in North Muskegon. We live in Grand Haven, where we enjoy kayaking and do lots of walking. I enjoy reading, volunteering at my church, and making sure my parents are behaving!

Retiring on the cusp of the pandemic threw us for a loop, but we’re finally getting the hang of it. We recently purchased a small RV, and look forward to seeing much more of the country. Hoping to see many of you at the reunion!

After graduation I attended Calvin College. There I met my wife Kathy. Ironically, her picture is in our yearbook from a chapel exchange with Kalamazoo Christian and I'm in hers from some soccer match. After graduating from Calvin we moved to Kalamazoo where I began working for the Klosterman Company, a business started by Kathy's grandfather. I spent my entire career there and recently retired. We are blessed with two children; David and Karyn and six grandchildren. Thankfully they are nearby and we see them all frequently. We enjoy tennis, biking, pickle ball, traveling, skiing (me) and spending time around Sleeping Bear Dunes. I consider it a privilege to be a proud graduate of WMCHS and am thankful for the education and friendships afforded me. I wish you all God's richest blessings!

My journey through life since high school has been an interesting ride. I graduated from MCC and moved to California for nine years where I was a computer programmer on the Space Shuttle Project and a Test Management Engineering Assistant on the B1 Bomber Project. I moved to Montana and have been blessed to live here for the 34 years, working for the school district and then in the Emergency Dept until I retired.
God has blessed me with two wonderful daughters and sons-in-law, eight beautiful grandchildren and one beautiful great-grandson. They are my sunshine, my joy, and I am blessed to have them close. My husband has been in heaven for 20 years now and God's grace, love and faithfulness to me and our family has been our strength.
Glacier Park is 35 miles from my doorstep so I spend a lot of time kayaking and hiking in my happy place! I am so blessed. I also love to walk every day and hope to walk another half-marathon in Missoula next summer.
I look forward to seeing lots of pictures of you all at the reunion since I am not able to attend. Have a great time!

Global Mission Mobilizer (for the Presbyterian Church)
Comment:
Met my husband of 44 years, Mark, at Calvin College and over the following years, did two MA degrees (Art History and Theology) which would each “define” my two distinct professional careers: the first, teaching/archeology and the second, global mission mobilization on behalf of the Presbyterian Church.
We moved to Houston to thaw out from Michigan winters and stayed 21 years. I began our Texas sojourn teaching at a design college and at the University of Houston (with a bit of archaeology in Egypt thrown in for good measure) and wrapped up there on the staff of First Presbyterian Church as the Director of Global Mission.
Still in love with warm, humid weather we moved to Atlanta (19 years!) where I joined the staff of an 8,000 member church (Peachtree Prez) as Director of Global Mission and then went to work for an independent Presbyterian mission organization (The Outreach Foundation).
God gave me a passion for the Middle East which began with its ancient art and current culture and then blossomed into a connection with the Church in places like Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Egypt—I have been blessed to travel often to those places, usually bringing others with me to meet the faithful Christians there.
Mark retired from his career in the office furniture environment (Steelcase, Herman Miller, etc) and we quickly headed to historic/artsy/quirky Savannah where we now make our home under the live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss.

After WMC I went to Calvin for two years, then transferred to Davenport University and graduated from there. At Calvin I met Dave, fell in love, and we were married on May 20, 1976. We are blessed to be in our 48th year of marriage. We moved to East Lansing, where I worked for MSU for several years while Dave completed his graduate studies. We loved East Lansing, and our first child was born there.
We moved back to Grand Rapids in 1980, and then to Rockford where we have lived now for more than 30 years. We have four children and six grandchildren, with the seventh on the way. I was a stay-at-home Mom as our kids grew up and I loved it. That stage of my life was wonderful and very fulfilling. As we approached the empty nest stage, I had several part time jobs, the most notable of which was an administrative assistant position for Young Life. I loved interacting with the college kids. Currently I am very involved in the women’s ministry at our church, Ada Bible, and I absolutely adore being a grandma!
My husband Dave still works full-time for Fishbeck, a consulting engineering company in Grand Rapids, where he is a part-owner and has worked for more than 40 years. As we approach retirement, we are looking forward to traveling more, and engaging in ministry opportunities that God will bring our way!

Hi classmates,
Since graduation, I went to community college and Calvin college. Then I got married and had two kids. After a divorce, I worked in my field at Children’s Resource Network. I remarried and have three stepchildren, so together we have five kids and 13 grandchildren. We are very blessed that now no one is farther away than one hour!
Through the past 50 years, I have gained knowledge beyond books, gained a closer relationship to God through happiness and sadness. I’ve gained weight, wrinkles, and ever so slight maturity!????
Jim and I are still working. I have been in interior design and in furniture sales for over 25 years. But this is my real love! So not sure when I’ll retire.
I have gone through two types of cancer in the last eight years, but doing very well.
As far as what we do to keep busy, it goes without saying, we keep busy with our grandkids. All are very active with sports, choir, orchestra, please, and all that goes with school.
We have been blessed with living by the water, so we enjoy boating. We stretch out the season as long as we can. We love being with family and friends. Obviously we enjoy going out to eat! We also enjoy traveling. Through the years, we have been able to go to a number of places in our beautiful country as well as outside the country. Mostly tropical areas. Well, that is my 50 years in a few short paragraphs. I hope all of you are well. Hope to see as many as possible at the reunion.
God’s blessing to all of you!

Following graduation I attended Calvin University ( the only real option as far as my parents were concerned) with a bachelor's degree focused on biology and chemistry. I spent a 12 month internship in medical technology at Hackley Hospital ( thanks to Merri Ver Merris' description of the field at career day). After the internship I married and began my career at a small hospital in Greenville Michigan. Both marriage and career have survived almost 45 years. Oh, so many changes!

Our 4 children are somewhat scattered . Jeri and her husband studied in Newfoundland, Canada and now live on st Joseph's Island in Ontario. Jessi and her husband and our 4 grandchildren live on a farm in South Dakota. Hence our second home is in the upper Midwest- not the usual FL or AZ.
Our younger son and daughter are still in Michigan.
In my leisure time I have enjoyed playing a lot of softball and more recently quilting. Making quilts for charity- neonatal unit at Helen Devos, quilts of Valor and hospice- is rewarding.

I enjoy all the updates. We have certainly been a blessed class.

Photo from May 20, 2023. No I wasn't a graduate, but I gave the keynote to our two high schools' commencements, because I'm retiring!!
But after WMCHS graduation in 1973.....
I went to Calvin for music and elementary education (BA) then taught school in the Bay Area (California) for a few years, then back to the Midwest. Got my masters and Ph.D. from Indiana University-Bloomington and have worked in education, business&industry, and for the Department of Defense in instructional technology. All that is well and good, but my big accomplishment in life is raising a family of four daughters with my husband Jack. We adopted two of our four daughters through Special Needs adoption. We are grateful that these girls came into our lives. We live in Indianapolis in a Victorian house built in 1892 in an historic neighborhood. I have fond memories of living in Fremont and taking the bus to Muskegon, and being in the plays at WMCHS, and going to Lake Michigan. I'm retiring in July and my passion of the last 15 years is birding. I cannot believe that we are 50 years out from our graduation....impossible.

Have so loved reading about everyone and your lives the last 50 years, proud of our class! I ended up married to Jim a few months after graduation and working at jobs here and there in the Muskegon area while he attained his Real Estate license along with buying and flipping houses. We had 2 of our boys here in Michigan. In 1981 when the economy crashed he was given an opportunity to sell time share in Sapphire NC, a tiny town west of Asheville up in the Blue Ridge Mts. We moved here with a tiny UHaul and big dreams. Had two more boys, and over the years have been to thousands of football, basketball and soccer games. I was able to stay home and manage the chaos as best I could. I have been active in my church...had to get dunked with the Baptists, taught Sunday School and youth and directed Christmas programs aplenty. Started a women's Bible Study class and am still leading it after 40 years, currently in my home. We have lived here over 40 years, our sons are all married and successful, we currently have 6 grandchildren, also have my mom Kathryn living with us, she turns 96 in May and doing awesome. Am healthy and walking every day, loving this stage in my life!!! We built Sapphire County Store in1990 with Real Estate office attached, this past summer added on restaurant "Jim's Place". I enjoy travel, photography, astronomy, my 1966 Mustang GT Fastback, and volunteering at Muskegon Christian School as part of the “Friday Crew”.

After High school I attended Calvin College and graduated with a degree in business administration. In 1981 I married Paula Mills, and we have been married for 42 years. I have worked in the family business for 55 years and have been owner for 32 years. My wife Paula works at New Era Christian School. We have 4 children(2 of them are in business with me) and 6 granddaughters.
We spend a great deal of time camping with family and friends. Unfortunately we will be unable to attend the reunion because we will be on a month long rv trip in the southwest.

After high school, I attended MCC before moving to Kalamazoo in 1976. I met and married my wife in 1981. I am currently employed with Zoetis. The largest manufacturer of animal medicines in the world. I enjoy playing golf, softball, and basketball. My wife and I are quite active in our church working with and teaching the younger children. Our grandkids keep us busy and we always try to make every one of their school activities.

After high school, I attended Muskegon Community College and Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I went to work for Amstore where I met my polar opposite and married her on March 28, 1980.

In 1985, we welcomed our daughter Stephanie, followed by her brother Phillip in 1986 and her sister Melissa in 1989.

I left Amstore in 1986 to go to prison... where I worked for around 30 years. I retired from the prison as a shift supervisor; now I work part time for a security company. My crazy wife went to work for Muskegon Public Schools and retired from there nine years ago to became a travel agent. Apparently, being a travel agent means we get to travel.

When we aren't traveling or working, we enjoy spending time with our grandchildren (we have four of them), reading, and spending time with our two adorable mutts.

After graduation I attended Calvin College gaining a special education degree. I taught for two years in Grand Rapids public schools then moved to Hoboken, New Jersey and cofounded the Mustard Seed School, a PK-8 Christian school with a radical financial aid program in what was then an innercity. During the 43 years I worked as mainly a lower school director as the school expanded and the city gentrified. The school was considered to be innovative and a model for other schools. We had many visitors from across the country, outside the country, and New York City, which is easily viewed across the Hudson River in Hoboken. I married and after 21 years divorced but we were blessed with 2 daughters, one a winemaker studying in Europe and the other a mother of twins and a baby in Arkansas where I now reside. I live in an Agrihood on the grounds of a former farm and enjoy time with my young grandchildren. I became a spiritual director and am still an avid reader and singer. I have been on two pilgrimages, have become a master gardener, and am enjoying walking the numerous trails here in the Ozarks, such a change after living in a square mile city of 50,000 people. I have lived in the North, the East, and now the South. I imagine the West might be the next adventure.

Retired from banking in 2016 after 41 years. I love camping, traveling and bowling and spending times with friends. I married Norm Peterman 1979 we have 2 children Jamie and Todd. In 2013 Norm got very sick and passed away in 5 weeks. Never saw that happening it really changed my world. With God's help and family and friends I have come along way. Looking forward to my dream vacation Alaska Cruise in August. It will be great to see all of you at the reunion.

I just attended the 51st reunion of the WMCHS Class of 1972 because I married my high school sweetheart, Fred Pettinga-the best decision I ever made. It was great to see their class, especially the Fremont group. I am really hoping some of you from Fremont are able to attend this reunion too.

We have 3 delightful children and will have 8 precious grandchildren by the time we gather. They have all returned to the Grand Rapids area from their various locations and we are so grateful to be able to share in their lives.

I worked as a Nurse Practitioner and enjoyed years in Family Practice, College Health, and Womens Specialty Care.

I would like Randy VanDyke and John Pettinga to know that after that humbling performance in my first bike race with you (so long ago in Fremont) I have continued to plod along and enjoy biking without any further attempts at racing. Like so many of you, with the more leisurely schedule retirement allows, we enjoy traveling and gathering with family and friends.

And I have a very tiny garden, more of a patch really….

My husband, Ken, and I celebrated our 48th anniversary on Valentine's Day this year. We have a daughter in Tucson with 3 grandchildren, and a son in Holland with 2 granddaughters. We lived in West Michigan until 2020, where I was the Summer Camp Registrar at Camp Geneva in Holland for 28 years. In 2020, we moved to Tucson, AZ, where I work for my oldest daughter, who owns a CPA firm, doing bookkeeping and tax return assembly. I often said that if I had my life to live over again, I'd go into accounting, so I love my job too much to retire! Ken is retired and loves picking the grandkids up from school 3 days/week. In my spare time (which I have precious little of), I enjoy knitting, either by hand or on one of my 4 knitting machines.

My husband, Len, is an ordained pastor in the Christian Reformed Church. We have lived a very typical pastor's-family life. Parsonages (next door to the church building - always), Christian Schools (close enough to hear the bell ring and run out the front door at the last minute), and lots of Community activities!

Len's career meant that we moved around a bit. We worked at three churches in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area (10 years); Ellsworth, Michigan (5 years); Celeryville, Ohio (16 years); and most recently - Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada (10.5 years). These years passed by quickly, our children thrived, and, along the way, we were privileged to share in the life-events of many people.

Len officially retired in the Fall of 2020, when we moved back to Grand Rapids to be closer to our siblings and children. We have five fantastic children, all married, who currently live in Michigan (two of our kids), Indiana, Illinois, and California. Plus, we have 12 fun grandchildren! Our oldest grandchild is 17 years old and a senior in high school. (How can this be?) Our youngest grandchild (#12) is due to be born in November, 2023.

Now after 50 years, it is wonderful to be able to reconnect with each of you, and read your stories!
