Comment: Fifty years, I can’t relate all of it here. So I will start with retirement.

I love it! My husband Nick and I retired in 2015, sold our house of 21 years in Castle Rock, bought a truck and a fifth wheel, and headed out to explore the country. We spent 3 years traveling around and spent winters in AZ where my little Colorado native Ruthie moved cuz it’s “too cold” in Colorado. So, she started her family down there, which is where I have to go to see my 3 grandkids.

Our oldest, Katie, just relocated herself back to Castle Rock and is still single. So that means that she can look out for us when we get extremely old, whenever that happens.

We bought 5 acres in Peyton and finally built a home in 2018. We raise golden retrievers and golden doodles. We have chickens and a big garden. Travel south for the winter to see the grands, because there will come a time when our grandkids will think we are stupid. So we try to convince them otherwise while there is still time.

We just bought a boat because we love boating and decided we should get one while we are still able to climb into it. No more water skiing though. It’s going to be fishing and tube floating now.
It’s always astounding how friends keep moving away. So although Peyton is only 45 minutes from Castle Rock, we had to start over making new friends.

We found a great church. I went to a ladies' Bible study, met some other crazy women, and invited a couple of them over with their husbands for food and game night. Result: a new network of friends to have fun with and pray with.

Then in November, it was bowling! We need to move our bodies through space! Plan was fun; no hospitals required afterwards, but turmeric and ginger helped sore muscles. Turns out picking up a 40-pound sack of feed is easier than flinging a 9-pound bowling ball 40 times. Who knew? God is good.

We try not to grunt when we stand up in public. We don’t want to give away our age. But these bones are definitely creakier than they used to be. We still work as hard as when we were younger, but now it takes us 3 days to recuperate. I’m not complaining though. Everyday you wake up means you’re still alive.

This is the day the Lord has made. Let’s rejoice and be glad in it.
