Comment: My husband and I lived in Juneau, Alaska for 27 years. My husband, a police officer (ironic) retired. We traveled for five years around Europe, New Zealand and Australia. Then we purchased an RV and traveled around the US for a decade before landing in Florida, where we currently reside. I have a dog training business, and we are building a house. Our Alaska family still resides in Juneau, including my step-daughter and three great granddaughters. We return "home" every summer. No complaints!

Comment: To sum up 50 years, whoa that's hard. I went to several different colleges and finally graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Elementary Education. I got a job as a teacher in a small town in Fordsville, Kentucky with grades K-12. I tought the 4th and 5th grades for 2 years. I really didn't like teaching so I moved back to Colorado with my folks. I got a job at Martin Marietta Data Systems driving a little truck. I went to school to get education in Computer Information. I worked for them for 8 years. During that time I took a job in Washington D.C. that required clearances and a polygraph. I passed all that and continued with Systems Administration on Sun Microsystems (some of you might remember that company) I worked for probably 15 different companies around the Beltway in Northern Virginia from 1987 to 2022. A contract would be rebid and we would just go with the next company in the same space. I ended up with Raytheon doing Systems Administration on HP/Linux systems. I liked my last job, the location in Northern Virginia was beautiful, the people at the office were fun to work with and the management was looking out for us, I enjoyed the work and the government customer we serviced. I retired in December of 2022.

I dated several guys with clearances they were the worst. I gave up, then I met my husband and life has been grand ever since. We have one daughter Karen that is currently living in Springfield, Illinois with her husband Josh. She is married but has no children. She is working at the Lincoln Library. I would really like to move out of the rat race in Northern VA and be closer to Karen. Unfortunately Gary, my husband was raised here and is quite happy staying right here. My sister Diane still lives in Boulder, CO and my brother David is living in Mobile, AL. He and his wife have 1 daughter Anna. She has loved horses all her life, so David brought a small, starter farm. She owns 2 Throughbred horses. They are beautiful geldings. She is learning to be a Farrier and will go to Montana for training this February. The funny coincidence is that I had been riding horses for many years before Anna was even born, of course she is much better than me. But horsebacking riding is such a joy. David is still working as an accountant that he and 1 partner own.

This area has so many historical things that Gary and I enjoy. My great grandfather fought in the Civil War and survived. Gary and I like to go to the battlefields and walk in the steps of my great grandfather. The Bloody Angle was horrible, it's a wonder anyone survived. It is still the war that killed that most men in our history. There is also Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown that I love to visit. My daughter Karen graduated from William and Mary. What a great experience for her. Gary and I are so proud of her.

Life has had many joys and some sorrows, but each day offers a blessing.
