Burel "Larry" Sartin was born on November 27, 1949 (the youngest twin of Jewel Tarry) to parents Naomi and Sylvester Sartin Sr. in Columbia, Mississippi. He received his high school diploma at J.J. Gulledge Memorial High School in Tylertown, Mississippi in 1967 where he actively participated in sports and chorus.
