Story

Since the beginning of the overdose crisis, hundreds of individuals in the Langleys have died from preventable deaths. Efforts to save lives have been ongoing in the community, however, Langley is still lacking obviously needed OPS services.

Langley Area eOPS aims to provide life-saving services, community resources, and connections for those most vulnerable. To get this off the ground, we are in need of immediate donations.

What do your donations go towards?

  • Hygiene items such as hand wipes, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes, etc.;
  • Snack packs. There are certain days when food services are not available in Langley; we try to fill in these gaps so people have access to food every day. Snack packs usually include a sandwich, fruit, a drink, and something sweet; and
  • Other essential items for unhoused folks such as emergency blankets and rain ponchos.

 What do we know about OPS sites?

  • OPS sites are mandated by our health authority under emergency legislation;
  • There has never been a death at an OPS site worldwide;
  • They build community through connections and resources;
  • They lessen the number of emergency service calls within communities, and relieve pressure from first responders; and
  • They bring visible street use indoors.

What do we know about overdose deaths in the Langleys?

  • The majority of calls to emergency services regarding overdoses come from Willoughby and Walnut Grove;
  • Most overdose deaths in the community occur behind closed doors;
  • Langley is in dire need for an OPS site as ONE pillar to support the community during the ongoing illicit poisoning crisis.

If you’ve wanted to contribute to the community but don’t know where to start, making a donation is the perfect place! Every dollar goes directly towards incredibly needed services and resources.

If you want to take your involvement one step further, have a passion for harm reduction, and care about providing dignified support to individuals, please reach out to us regarding volunteer opportunities at langleyareaeops@gmail.com. Langley Area eOPS is entirely operated by volunteers and peers.

Thank you so much.
