NEWPORT NEWS - James Curtis Parks, 42, died at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, after an extended siege of cancer.
He was born in Hampton but resided in Newport News for the past 34 years. He graduated from Ferguson High School, Thomas Nelson Community College and Christopher Newport University.
Mr. Parks was baptized in Bethany United Methodist Church and most recently attended First United Methodist Church, Hilton Village.
He was employed at Fort Eustis in the Army Transportation School. He headed the Classroom Support Branch of the Highway and Rails Section. He was recently granted the distinction of being named "honorary transporter" of the Transportation Corps Regiment by the commanding general.
Mr. Parks is survived by his parents, James H. Parks and Mary B. Parks; and a sister, Dana P. Atkins, all of Newport News.
