Cheryl Elizabeth Yielding Fales, 38, died Tuesday, April 5, 1994, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Fales, a native of Newport News and a member of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, graduated in 1973 from Ferguson High School.
She received a B.A. in English and history from Christopher Newport College and a M.A. in history from Old Dominion University.
Employed by the Hampton Public Library in its Virginiana Collection, she was also a respected lecturer on genealogy and Civil War topics.
Her community associations included vice president of the Peninsula Civil War Roundtable, treasurer of the John Pelham Historical Association, Association for Preservation of Civil War Sites, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Tidewater Genealogical Society and Peninsula Women's Network.
Survived by her husband, Carl "Lyn" Fales Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Yielding Sr. (Willie and Marie) of Newport News; two stepdaughters, Amy Fales Estes and Mary Katharin Fales, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; one grandson, Craig Estes; a sister, Charlotte Yielding McGary of Bothell, Wash.; and a brother, William E. "Bill" Yielding Jr. of Centreville, Va.
