Jay Dee Johnson, Jr. was born August 17, 1955.

Life can be uncompromising and the terrain on which human life walks can be rough and burdensome. There are plights and paths in which all life takes according to God's purpose, each bowing to the Almighty Hand of Him that watches over all things, leaving nothing for those who are called by His Name to want. Jay Johnson knew this best and lived the final days of life - on this side – by faith and knowing that the Lord was indeed his shepherd and that he indeed would not want for anything…

Mr. Jay Dee Johnson transitioned from life to death on September 5, 2010 at his home after a brief illness.

Before his passing, Jay lived a fulfilling life – he attended James S. Lee Elementary School and subsequently graduated from Homer L. Ferguson High School in 1973, both in Newport News, VA. From there Jay enlisted in the Air Force and continued to excel in his endeavors. He served in the United States Air Force as a Command and Control System Specialist and then in the NCOIC Records Section at the Radena Air Base in Japan. Jay concluded his military career with an honorable discharge in 1977 as a Sergeant.

After receiving his honorable discharge Jay took up life as a civilian with a humanitarian flare, working in his community as a Wrap Around Counselor at Tidewater Regional. There he would help countless individuals and affect many lives as he interacted with people of various ages.

In the midst of his work, Jay found time in 1992 to be sent on a "blind date." This blind date would eventually lead to a budding relationship with a then Debra Evans, and would consequently lead to a marriage of more than 18 years.

Although Jay spent the majority of his life in the Tidewater area, in 2003 it was God's will to relocate him to a little town in Virginia called Louisa County where he continued to work, but this time not just for a livelihood or for personal aspiration. This time Jay's work would take on an eternal value and it would be for God.

After coming to Louisa, Jay began to work at Tridim Filter Corp until illness prevented him from continuing, but it was also during this time that God began to create a new work in him that would lead to a kind of work that was far beyond and further-reaching than anything else Jay had done previously; God was calling Mr. Jay Dee Johnson to salvation. Jay willngly embraced God's call and was baptized on October 12, 2008 at Rising Sun Baptist Church in Mineral, Virginia, a neighboring region located within Louisa County where his wife would also join him in membership.

At Rising Sun, Jay became a worker in the Married Couple's Ministry and the corner stone of the Drama Ministry. Beyond working inside the church building and with the Body of Christ, Jay was also a worker on the outside, encouraging fellow believers in Jesus Christ and sharing the good news of salvation with those lost. In addition to this new work, Jay was also a student of the Bible and studied diligently to know the God that saved his soul and in whom he now served with his life.

Mr. Jay Dee Johnson lived a wide and fulfilling life, one in which the theme of "work" was continuous and reoccurring. Indeed, it was God's design for Jay to work – for a living, as a provider for himself and his family, and for the well-being of others. Although Jay has transitioned from this side of life and work his work continues as a bearer and hero of faith, and now stands with God holding the narrow path found in the river of life open for all those whom he has left behind.
