Linda Carol Hess Burton, 66, of Portsmouth, VA passed away peacefully on October 13, 2022. Linda was the youngest of three children born to Margie Marie Elswick Hess and Garland Raleigh Hess, in Newport News, VA. She was a graduate of Warwick High School.
Linda met the love of her life, C. Charles Burton in Newport News, and they were married in 1973. They were both members of Nansemond River Baptist Church, and before that, members of Western Branch Baptist Church.
Linda had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community and church. She was always smiling wherever she went. Linda was known to be a baking and cooking enthusiast who knew how to fill anyone’s belly with some deliciously yummy food and desserts. Everyone around always enjoyed what she cooked and baked and often made requests of what she should cook or bake. Many have asked for her recipes. Linda was a member of the Colonial Virginia Model A Ford Club alongside her husband and enjoyed riding in their antique vehicles and participating in car shows and parades.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles, and father Garland. She is survived by her mother, Margie; daughter, Amy; son, Jason; four grandchildren, Emma, Brooke, Abigail, and Brody; and two sisters, Judy and Sandra. She was a faithful wife and loving mother to her children, raising them in Portsmouth with frequent visits to North Carolina. She was a doting grandmother to her four grandchildren and she always provided love and support to her family.
