ROCKPORT - Marie Azevedo, 61, passed away January 3, 2009 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center following a long illness.
Born March 6, 1947 in Camden, she was the daughter of Edwin and Bertha Robinson Bachelor. Marie was educated in the Rockport school system, graduating from the last class of Rockport High School in 1965. In 1966 she graduated from the former Plus School of Business in Portland.
In June of 1967, she married Michael Azevedo and the couple resided in the Southern Maine area for many years. Marie was employed by Commercial Union Insurance Company until the births of her children.
In 1980 she moved to the Winthrop area where she was employed by Brian Berry, CPA for many years as a secretary / receptionist. Eventually, the family relocated to the 'log cabin on the mountain' in Liberty. Marie was immediately hired by MBNA in Belfast, working in data processing until her retirement in 2005.
Following the deaths of her parents, she moved to West Rockport where she resided until the time of her passing.
A devoted and immaculate homemaker, her family said she was a tremendous cook. She held a deep love for her family and was very family-oriented. She love to camp and canoe, and enjoyed fairs, crafts, and gardening. Prior to her illness, her passions were following in the foot-steps of her father regarding home remodeling and reconstruction. There was no job too big or small for her to tackle. It was often joked that there was not a permanent wall in the house. She also loved working in the woods and landscaping. Her rock-walls were of impeccable beauty of quality.
Marie is survived by two sons, Michael Azevedo, Jr. and his wife Crystal of Carmel, Mark Azevedo and his wife Kristin of Weeks Mills; five grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Samuel, Cody, Jessica; one brother, Edwin C. Bachelor, Jr. and his wife Katherine of Nashua, NH; one aunt, Madeline Haskell of Palermo, three uncles, John Robinson, Jr., Basil Robinson and his wife Marjorie all of West Rockport, Maurice Thomas of Liberty; two nieces, Debra Dufresne and her husband, Robert of Nashua, NH, Pamela Bernazani of Chelmsford, MA; and five grand-nieces and nephews as well as many cousins.
She is also survived by her former husband, Michael Azevedo of Liberty, former mother-in-law, Grace Azevedo of Rockland and many special friends extending from southern Maine to Florida.
Marie's family would like to extend a special thanks to all the friends, relatives and neighbors who supported them through this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Interment at Achorn Cemetery will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
