David Lawrence Spear, 66, died peacefully in his home on May 29, 2012, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Rockport, the son of Laforest True Spear Jr. and Dorothy Mae Mellville. He graduated from Rockport High School in 1963 and then attended Northern Maine Vocational Technical College for two years before entering the Army in September 1967. He was in communications, serving two years in Korea and one year in Bayonne, N.J., before being honorably discharged in June 1970.
He was an accomplished business owner in Camden of Shell Elms Service Station for many years before building D.L. Spear and Son in Rockport in 1988. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. In his retirement he enjoyed working at Goose River Golf Course. His many interests included motorcycles, snowmobiles, antique cars, truck pulls, Nascar and reminiscing with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Kay Spear; his son, Jason Chesley Spear of Rockport and girlfriend Rhonda Gardner; his daughter, Melissa Ivis Dove and her husband, Rob Dove, of Berlin, Md.; his grandson, Zachary David Dove; his sister, Linda Spear Lemieux of Belfast; his brothers, William Loren Spear of Holland, Mich., Robert True Spear of Pompano, Fla., and his wife Lynn, and Michael Phillip Spear of Rockport and his wife Kim; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery on June 6 at 11 a.m. The public is welcome to attend. A celebration of life will be follow immediately at Spears Automotive Service, 20 Park St. in Rockport.
