David A. Pistole died unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep Friday morning, August 21, 2015.

He was a Seattle native, who lived on Camano Island for 17 years with Janice, his wife of 19 years.

David was a force of nature. The most joyful, fun, generous, memorable character around these parts. He loved life, and most of the people in it. Above all things, he loved children, and they loved him right back.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School and joined the

U.S. Navy shortly thereafter.

David packed a great deal into his 75 years on Earth. He was a SCUBA instructor in Southern California, a skier (snow and water), boater, fisherman, hunter, crabber, Cessna pilot (land and sea). He was good at everything he tried, including careers in loan office managing, tuna fisherman in Southern California and Mexico, crabber in Alaska, and as a marine engineer at Washington Tug and Barge, Brix Maritime, and Foss Maritime, retiring from Foss 15 years ago, after a 23-year stint.

David had two children, Nancy Allyn Pistole and Wade Pistole; three grandchildren, Haley, Ashlyn and Kenner Pistole; two stepdaughters, Andrea Doyle and Katrina Powers, as well as a very large extended family on Janice's side. He also leaves behind his younger sister Judy Wiseman and brother-in-law, John Wiseman.

It's so hard to imagine my dear old pal Dave Pistole as no longer with us. It's true, his was a vital life force, energetic, enthusiastic - and full of joie de vivre. Dave and I double dated many times when at RHS - I remember Dave and I freezing our fingers washing and waxing my father's 1955 black and white Ford for the big New Year's Eve dance! In later years, he and his family would stop by our place in San Rafael for long and happy visits. Dave was always such a good supportive friend as well - encouraging me with the drama at RHS and the dance band. Memories of our friendship, with all the laughs and nutty stuff will sustain through the sadness of his passing. One fantastic guy and certainly one of a kind.
