Evelyn Marie Myles
1947-08-13
To everything there is a season.
Ecclesiastes 3:1
MS. EVELYN MARIE MYLES was born August 13, 1947, to the late Mr. George and Mrs. Joyce Myles. She was the oldest of four children and was affectionately known as "Shugamama" or simply "Shug".
Evelyn confessed Christ at an early age and united with Forty-fifth Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend L. M. Turner. She remained there as a member until her passing.
She was educated in the Birmingham Public Schools. Evelyn was a high-stepping majorette at Carol W. Hayes High School where she graduated 1965 with honors. She continued her formal education at Alabama A&M University, and in 1969, she graduated as a proud, committed and dedicated "Bulldog".
Evelyn was employed as an educator with the State of Alabama Department of Youth Services for over 30 years. Her career choice was most befitting for her. She loved children, and although she did not have any of her own, she was a loving foster parent to many children both, black and white.
Also, she was a member of Club Unique/Golden Girls. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her delicious chicken salad and scrumptious banana pudding, just to name a few.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. George and Mrs. Joyce Myles; grandparents, Mr. Robert and Mrs. Carrie Pope; sister, Mrs. Carradean Williams and brother, Mr. Fred Kelley.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and devoted sister, Ms. Pamela Myles Bowen; a loving brother, Mr. Jarrod (Deidre) Myles; a supportive sister, Ms. Cheryl Bryant; two aunts, Mrs. Rochester, NY; and Mrs. Helen Green Mildred Myles of of Anniston, AL; sister-in-law, Mrs. Anniquinetta (Reverend D. Otis) Miller; brother-in-law, Mr. Erskine Williams; nieces, Ms. Phaedra Williams, Ms. Angela Gowdy, Ms. Jasmine Myles, Ms. Christiana Bowen, Ms. Tyler Bryant, Ms. Garnetta Taylor, Ms. Franchezka Dansby and Ms. Shu'Carra Cochtery; nephews, Sgt. Cortez Smith, Mr. Craig Smith, Jr., Mr. Gary Dansby and Mr. Josiah Powell; great nephews, Mr. Yul Gowdy and Lil Master Cannon Smith; special friends, Mr. Otis and Mrs. Betty Crane, Mrs. Emma Seay Moore, Mr. Robert Matthews, Ms. Anita Tate, Ms. Brenda Collins, Mrs. Dorothy Lamb, Mr. Larry and Mrs. Joyce Mims, Mrs. Brenda Frazier and Mrs. Joyce Coleman.
Special thanks to Alabama Mentor, the Brookwood Hospital Medical Team and Ms. Barbara Twitty for the special care and attention provided to our loved one. Special "Kudos" to my supportive and encouraging cousins, Deacon Harold G. Brown, Minister Collis Stephen, Jr., Mr. Jerome Hardy and Reverend Viola T. Freeman. know "Shug" wants me to thank you personally.
