Student Dies in Parking Ramp Fall
College student George A. Albright, 21, of 5201 Shawano Terrace, died Sunday afternoon of "massive head injuries" 13 hours after he plunged from the Lake St. parking ramp, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Donald Scullion. Police were investigating to determine whether Albright accidentally fell or was pushed from the second story of the ramp. Albright, a fourth year electrical and computer engineering student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was found lying on the sidewalk on the Hawthorne Ct. side of the ramp at 2:15 a.m. by a fire ambulance crew called to the scene by an unknown person. Albright was pronounced dead about 3 p.m. at University Hospitals. Police said Albright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Albright, had driven to the campus area with friends Saturday night. He had been seen in the Kollege Klub tavern, 529 N. Lake St., before the plunge, police said." From the Aug 16, 1976 Wisconsin State Journal: Article

I grew up a couple blocks away from George and got to be friends with him in the neighborhood and at Van Hise. We lost touch in the vastness of West and hung out in different crowds, but I’ll always remember him as a gentle soul. I was shocked when I read of his way-too-early death while I was still in college. I’ve wondered what the investigation into his death concluded, but then I realized it was a tragic loss of a fine person no matter what cause.
tribute by Steve IrwinGeorge was engaged to be married to my friend Eileen Conohan, He was such a likeable, smiling guy, sincere and sweet. The night of his fall always will be remembered as one of the saddest days of my life with Eileen begging to marry him before they removed life support. We all learned far too much about grief that night... RIP George.
