Carol Sullivan
1955-05-20 2022-07-11
Our beloved Carol Ann Sullivan passed away on July 11th, 2022, at the age of 67 following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on May 20th, 1955 in Ames, IA, the youngest of three daughters to Paul and Mary Peterson. Carol was raised in Southern California (Orange County) and enjoyed camping, water skiing, snow skiing, and dancing. Her family returned to Iowa just prior to Carol's junior year of high school. She graduated from Ames High School in 1973 where she met her future husband of 41 years, Tim Sullivan.
Carol graduated from Colorado State University in 1977 as an Occupational Therapist. She then began her true passion for serving others, primarily children with special needs, while working at (among others) the Cerebral Palsy Center in Midland, TX, and for the Jenks School District in Oklahoma. She retired after approximately 15 years to stay at home and dedicate her talent and love to her family, raising two amazing children, Courtney and Peter. She was an involved parent and supportive wife. There is no question we were loved by her, and her by us.
Courtney married Ian Graham and they were blessed with four children, Evie, Rory, Sully, and Silas. One of her greatest joys was being their Grammy (or Mimi as Silas calls her).
Carol loved traditions and celebrations. Whether it be costumes and decorations for Halloween, 4th of July face painting and parades, Christmas gift giving, New Year's Eve parties, Birthday surprises, Easter egg hunts, St Patty's Day green beer, hand-made Valentine cards, or even May Day baskets, she made our lives rich and fun. She also documented our lives with timeless photos to help assist our memories.
Carol will be remembered for her infectious smile, her selfless nature, her love of family, her love of friends, her love of celebration, her love of life, and her unwavering faith in Jesus.
Carol was predeceased by her parents Dr. Paul and Mary Peterson and her sister Sandra Peterson. She is survived by her sister Roberta Lickteig (Dr. Joe Lickteig), Newton, KS; her husband Tim Sullivan, Jenks, OK, her children Dr. Peter Sullivan, Houston, TX; Courtney Sullivan Graham (Ian Graham) Pennington, NJ; her Grandchildren Evie, Aurora, Sullivan, and Silas.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 23rd at 4 pm at Redeemer Church in Tulsa, OK followed by a reception at Cedar Ridge Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Reiman Gardens (Ames, IA, reimangardens.com), Ecclesia Church (Princeton, NJ, ecclesianj.com), or Little Light House (Tulsa, OK, littlelighthouse.org). https://www.bradshawcarter.com/
