Todd Michael Sand was born on April 9, 1955, in Phoenix, Arizona, the second of Phyllis and Raymond Sand's three children. The family moved to Ames in 1967, where Todd graduated from high school in 1973. Todd later moved to California, where he was a flight attendant. He was killed in a pedestrian accident on June 4, 2010, in Cathedral City, California.

Todd is survived by his husband, Ralph Edward Tardugno; mother, Phyllis; and sister, Cindy. He was predeceased by his father and brother, Joel.

Friends and family remember Todd for his constant smile, beautiful voice, perfect posture, and twinkling eyes. A true gentleman, he was kind-hearted, caring, and always helpful to everyone. He taught his friends compassion, humanity, and enlightenment in one's life. He will be missed by everyone.
