Dwight was finally able to attend his first VMI Graduation Reunion, our 45th, in October 2023. Unfortunately, Dac Colden and Jack Wright were unable to join us. Left to right: Martin Welsh, Dwight Weirich, and me. Martin and I have never missed a VMI class reunion in 45 years. For many years, Martin's Dad Cecil Welsh (VMI 1952) often joined us for class reunions. Mr. Welsh and Jack's Dad Sherril Wright (VMI 1952) were classmates at VMI. Both were alumni sponsors for the Cox Five.

I've been trying to get a picture of the Cox Five for 45 years. Our 25th VMI Graduation Reunion in May 1998 is closest I ever came to doing so; four of the five. Left to right is Dac Colden, Jack Wright, Martin Welsh, and me. I recall Dwight was still on Active Duty in the US Navy at the time and was deployed out of the country (OCONUS).

I followed my Dad into the US Army Airborne. He was still on Active Duty and served as my jumpmaster on my last two jumps. Dad pinned my silver wings on me at Lawton Army Airfield, Fort Benning, GA, in 1976 and did the same for my brother in 1992. Our family was Airborne All The Way!!!

I went to VMI with Dac Colden, Dwight Weirich, Martin Welsh, and Jack Wright. Jack was a member of the VMI Regimental Band all four years at VMI. I never knew he was musically inclined until one night I looked up and there was Jack beating cadence as the Corps marched down to the messhall. In this picture Jack and the VMI Pep Band are leading the Corps down Main Street in Lexington, VA, to celebrate winning the Southern Conference Basketball Championship and a place in the NCAA Quarterfinals in Greensborough, NC. What an adventure!!

My Food Service Card Permit issued by the VB Health Department that enabled me to work at Charlie's Seafood Restaurant. My co-workers at Charlie's that summer included Chuck OBrien, Rich Nye, and Chuck's sister Erin (CHS '75). I never worked so hard for so little ($1.35/hour). But I was surrounded by a good group of people who made the good times better and the not so good not so bad. Thanks to Steve Barry for motivating me to dig up all this "old stuff".

An article about the Cox exchange program with a Hershey high school. Notice the cost of the Hershey bar printed on the wrapper!
