Viola Martin (Jackson)

Birth Date: 1915-12-07
Deceased Date: 2016-08-20
Obituary:
VIOLA MARTIN was born on December 7, 1915, in Bear Spring, Tennessee, to the union of General and Martha Jackson. Both her father and mother preceded her in death over four decades ago.

When Viola was born, God had already appointed a day and time for her to come home and reunite with her Lord and Savior. Viola received her education in the public schools of Tennessee. At thirteen, Viola accepted her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was baptized in the Cumberland River in Nashville, Tennessee. Before Viola would answer the Lord's call to come home to glory on August 11, 2016, the Lord permitted her to dwell among her loved ones for one hundred years. Viola's favorite scripture was Psalm 23.

Viola married Lee Owen Martin, who preceded Viola in death on June 25, 1981. Viola and Lee Martin were blessed with seven children "Bessie, Robert, Dorothy, Helen, Lee Jr., Gwen, and Cora.

The Martin family relocated to Los Angeles in 1957. In the 1960s, Viola united with St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. Viola was a devoted wife and mother who was dedicated to raising her family and teaching them the values of life.

Viola was a soft-spoken woman with a powerful voice. Viola was considered the matriarch of the family and the family's hidden treasure. Family members and friends can tell you many beautiful stories about how Viola has touched, blessed, or enhanced their lives. Viola was a great listener and never judged anyone; she was a living witness to the testament of the Word of God, Matt 7:1-2: "Judge not, that ye be not judge. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judge: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."

As many of us knew, Viola enjoyed walking; she would walk until she could no longer walk by herself. Even with her walking disability, this was a minor inconvenience and did not stop Viola from getting around.

Viola will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Dorothy Kirkpatrick, Gwendolyn Taylor, and Cora Martin; nine grandchildren, Andre Patton, Tracy McCullough, Stacy Patton, Eric Kirkpatrick, Wendell Johnson, Zevelyn Lee, James Kirkpatrick, Pamela Kirkpatrick-Freeman, and Anthony Kirkpatrick; nineteen great-grandchildren, and twenty-three great-great-grandchildren; and more relatives and friends.
