Dan Maloney
2021-12-08
Daniel James Maloney, age 67, of Yorktown, Virginia went to his heavenly home on December 8, 2021, at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Born January 29, 1954, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, son to George and Bernice Maloney. Dan joined the United States Navy after completing school for the travel and experiences throughout the various assignments he would have. He loved his country and proudly served in various capacities throughout the 20 years of his Navy life. By disposition, he was of a kind and generous nature with a wonderful sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, loving father and Pepaw, Christian witness and patriot. His favorite saying when things were tough was “ God has always gotten us through and he will get us through this time, you have to believe that.” Dan loved a challenge and was a perfectionist on any project he decided to take on, whether it be woodworking, pen turning or photography. He would always look for a pattern for a project, or create one, then change it to match what he wanted it to look like. He was in many groups for woodworking and pen turning on Facebook and enjoyed the interaction with the many friends in the groups. It brought Dan great joy to teach others the crafts he enjoyed, passing on his knowledge to others, especially his grandchildren. Dan worked at Food Lion on Hampton Hwy in Yorktown and in Newport News for over twenty years. At the time of his death, he was employed in the tool department at the Lowes in Hampton, Virginia. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 23 years, Evelyn Maloney; children, Aaron (Sarah) Cutler, Todd (Andrea) Cutler and Alicia Hopkins; grandchildren, Anthony Cutler, Sierra Cutler, Dalton Cutler, Sebastian Cutler, Jaden Vandermark, Seth Cutler, Aurora Cutler, Kendrick Cutler, Scott Hopkins, Blaine Hopkins, Dhevin Hopkins, Keithan Hopkins and Evalise Hopkins; brothers, John (Shannon) Maloney, Timothy (Dora) Maloney, Michael (Matthew) Maloney, Mark (Vanja) Maloney; nephews, Justin (Amy) Maloney, Adam Maloney, Patrick (Nuriel) Maloney; great-nephew, Connor Maloney; and numerous cousins and friends. The time we had with Dan has left us with many memories to cherish, although the time seems short. He impacted many lives for the better with his love, kindness and sense of humor, but mostly with his strong faith and trust in the Lord. Daniel, you are so loved and will be greatly missed. A celebration of Dan's life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666.
