Anne Conover
September 22, 1955 - September 26, 2023
Newport Beach
Known for a quick wit, an unwavering Episcopalian faith, and, foremost, a deep devotion to her family, Anne Marie Conover passed away on September 26, 2023.
Anne leaves her loving husband, Mark Scott; their two children, Cat - Catherine Annerl (21) and Xander Alexander Annerl (14); and her mother-in-law, Shirley Inman. Only recently diagnosed with cancer, her loss will be deeply felt by her extended family, friends, and colleagues from her worlds of dance, education, and her parish home, St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Corona del Mar, California.
Anne was born on September 22, 1955 at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood, California to parents Guy and Mae Conover. She attended Villa Park High School, Class of 1973. Fiercely independent and artistic, she graduated six months early to begin her education and career in dance. A gifted ballerina, Anne earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University at Long Beach in 1982. Pivoting career direction, she earned a California Teachers Credential from CSULB in1984.
During her years as an enthusiastic and gifted kindergarten teacher in the Orange Unified School District, Anne was introduced to Mark Scott. Long time residents of Newport Beach, the couple celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this June. Their two children were the focus of her days. She believed strongly in their individual talents and abilities, and she loved every season of their growth.
Anne was as proud of her Scottish heritage as she was of being a Native Californian. At any moment, she could provide the local history, geography, and socio-political status of Orange County. She never missed a vote- local ,state or national- and she believed in the rights of all people especially women, teachers, and the marginalized. Anne had little patience for those who did not vote.
Anne was known for her deep Christian faith and inspirational leadership. She will be remembered as a pillar of strength at St. Michaels, and for her gifts in children's ministry. She discovered the Godly Play Foundation over ten years ago, and was instrumental to its success at St, Michaels. She often remarked how she loved to prepare Sundays' story for the children, as it was her most meditative and mystical time with God.
Anne will be remembered for whimsy and wisdom; her core strength, independence and intelligence; her desire to not only teach, but to learn. In particular, God graced Anne with rare, mesmerizing violet blue eyes: these, her most beautiful feature, will be missed by everyone. May knowing her deep faith in God sustain the grieving. Her funeral will be on November 18, 2023 at 1pm at St. Michael & All Angels Church in Corona Del Mar, Ca. In lieu of flowers, please celebrate her life by contributing to the Godly Play Program at her parish: stmikescdm.org

To my Dear Anne, aka: Annabanana My dearest friend of 56 years has gone to the Heavens. I find comfort in knowing that her faith in God and Jesus was strong and unwavering. Anne and I did life together. We met at Peralta Junior High School, first day of school in 1967. First period French class with Ms. Faas. We became Christians together. We dated brothers at the same time, she was my Maid of Honor and my ex-husband's groom was her boyfriend. We both had Karmann Ghia's at the same time. We shared so much, the loss is a lifetime of love and friendship. Anne was the best friend this girl could have ever had. I will remember you always. I cherish the love we had and the many memories that fill our lifetime. My darling Anne, Rest In Peace.
