Elmon Leggett, who is from The Ora Branch, shared a memory at the 2022 Family Reunion about Mama Anna. He stated that she had chicken coup that was being attacked by a cougar. Mama Anna bravely used what was handy. She wielded a stick and beat the predator to death.

I am from The Rufus Branch and lived with my grandparents for 2 years in Quitman, MS. Breakfast ALWAYS consisted of homemade biscuits with preserves or cane syrup, eggs, grits and bacon or sausage. Rufus McCree and I both liked a lot of butter in the grits. Every morning Papa Rufus would look towards my plate and say, "You got enough butter in those grits?" It was the morning ritual laugh!
