William David Chappelle McClary was born August 21, 1911 in the Cedar Swamp community, and died on Sept. 2, 1989 in Marion, SC. He was the youngest of the 14 children, educated at Allen University for undergraduate and Temple and SC State for advanced degrees. He served as an educational administrator in Horry County, as well as pastored several churches in South Carolina, before retiring as a Presiding Elder. His community involvement led him to serve on several boards and commissions. He was also a member of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity, Inc., Joint Stock Lodge #746, Joint Stock Company of SC, of which is father was co-founder.
