Obituary:
Mark Clark McCleary, son of the late George McCleary and Hilda Scott McCleary, was born on April 30, 1952, in Philadelphia, PA. He was the fourth sibling of seven children.

Mark received his education in the Philadelphia Public Schools system. He graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1969. Mark was a member of the Delaware Valley Drill Team (The Young Great Society) as well as an active member of the NAACP. After graduating, he attended Cheyney University in Cheyney, PA, for two years. In 1972, he joined the United States Army as a Medical Corpsman. In March of 1973, he was honorably discharged from the Army due to injuries. After that, he went to work for the United States Postal Service.

Mark was a founding member of Around the Way Incorporated and Lex & Fairmount Association, where he mentored young men in sports and educated them on political issues throughout the city; he was also a member of the George Corthin Post 98 American Legion (DAV). He was actively involved with his community through the Block Captains of West Philly Association.

Mark had friends all over; he felt that he was the Mayor of Lancaster Avenue. He was always helping someone. He was a lover of football, and he especially adored his Philadelphia Eagles.

On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, Mark was called home to join his father, George McCleary Sr., one brother., one brother, George McCleary Jr., and one sister, Patricia Gross.

Mark leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Hilda; three brothers, Anthony, Gregory, and Michael; one sister, Tracey Gore; two sisters-in-law, Minerva and Acquanetta; one brother-in-law, Dennis Gore; two aunts, Lucille McCleary and Renee McCleary; seven nieces and eight nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.
