Mark Oyaas

Grade School: | Kenwood |
---|---|
Marital status: | Married |
Spouse /Partner Name: | Joan O'Rourke Oyaas |
Children: | 2 |
Grandchildren: | 1 |
Occupation: | Public Affairs (Government Relations) Consultant |
Most unique school memory:
On the last day of 5th grade Miss Blonigan took a couple of us to her brother's home on Lake Minnetonka where we had a boat ride and a KFC dinner from DeLairia's. It was a special thank you, and yes, I felt special. Years later I was going to Kenwood for Kindergarten Round up with my oldest and there was Miss Blonigan, returned as a volunteer after retirement. "Mark Oyaas you can't fool me with that mustache." We both got a bit misty. |
|
Favorite hobbies or pastimes?: | I try and stay disciplined regarding fitness, incorporating resistance training with Pilates which I started in 2000. I try and golf and continue to study the Zen of laundry. |
Have you traveled or lived in any other countries?: I lived in Germany whilst in the Army and returned there in 2019 touring Central Europe. We have taken family trips to Ireland, Italy and Switzerland. My wife works for a law firm that has an office in London so I have tagged along hanging there and sneaking across for weekend trips to Paris. | |
What have been your greatest joys, challenges, or accomplishments?: Living with a wife who defines JOY, two boys that thanks to their Mom's genetics are the definitions of gentlemen. We have high hopes for our first grandson, James (3/19/2023). Professional highlights include work on several important civic infrastructure additions including the expansion of the Walker Art Center, the Minnesota Convention Center and Target Field. | |
What would people be surprised to know about you?: That I served in the Army. Entirely voluntary. Not drafted nor was I sentenced to do so by a judge. It was among the best decisions I ever made. | |
Are you still in contact with any fellow classmates?: Oh Lord I stepped on several in grade school and can not get them off my shoe! Working on these reunions has been a lot of fun reconnecting with a wider circle. Most of us can say that Facebook has been a rewarding way to stay connected with an even wider orbit of classmates. For those with whom that is my primary contact I want you to know I genuinely enjoy your posts. | |
Please share a favorite high school memory?: This is tough one becaue I had a blast and really learned a lot of life lessons. I will say the icing on the cake was sharing morning annoucement duties with Sarah Linner. We were certainly Ying and Yang of styles but it was sure fun for me to push the envelope now and again! |
