1955-05-04 1999-02-26Vanessa Nadine Wiggins, a lifelong resident of the Peninsula, passed Into eternal life on Friday, Feb. 26, 1999. Vanessa was born May 4, 1955, and was reared by her uncle and aunt, Elbert and Matilda Wiggins. Her birth parents, Ruben and Burma Wiggins, and her uncle, Elbert, preceded her in death. Vanessa was a 1973 graduate of Ferguson High School and a member of the last sophomore class of Huntington High School. She also attended Christopher Newport University. Vanessa was employed by the city of Hampton for 16 years. She worked In the records department until 1991, when she was stricken by a debilitating stroke. James "Jim" H. Wingo, 65, died on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born January 17, 1955, in Virginia, to Rufus "R.J." James Wingo and Geraldine Veal Wingo. Mr. Wingo was a respiratory therapist for Cullman Regional Hospital, prior to his retirement. He was a loving husband, father and brother.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother: Ernest Wingo.

1954-11-19 2004-12-13Phyllis V. Woodfark Winston, 50, formerly of Newport News, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at her home in Odenton, Md. She was born on Nov. 19, 1954, at Fort Monroe, Va., to Mr. and Mrs. James E. Woodfark, the youngest of two children. During her time of life in Maryland, she worked with the Food and Drug Administration in drug evaluation, and later in food service at Cosco. She was a member of Greater Church of Deliverance in Capitol Heights, Md. Under Pastor Tucker, her spiritual knowledge, relationship and faith blossomed. Barry K. Wynings died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001. He had been an insurance salesman for State Farm for 23 years.
Mr. Wynings attended Village Church in Suffolk. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl L. Wynings.
Survivors include two daughters, Shannon Wynings and Laura Wynings, both of York County; his mother, Dorothy Wynings of Carrollton; and his brothers, "Chuck" Wynings and his wife, Joy, of Carrollton, and Eric R. Wynings and his wife, Beth, of Newport News.

Cheryl Elizabeth Yielding Fales, 38, died Tuesday, April 5, 1994, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Fales, a native of Newport News and a member of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, graduated in 1973 from Ferguson High School.
She received a B.A. in English and history from Christopher Newport College and a M.A. in history from Old Dominion University.
Employed by the Hampton Public Library in its Virginiana Collection, she was also a respected lecturer on genealogy and Civil War topics.
Her community associations included vice president of the Peninsula Civil War Roundtable, treasurer of the John Pelham Historical Association...
